Plot

Opening scene

The purple haze hangs over the city like it does every morning. Soft violet light filters between the skyscrapers, illuminating rows of abandoned cars, cracked windows, overgrown sidewalks, and faded advertisements from a world that doesn’t exist anymore. It’s strangely peaceful. For once, there aren’t any explosions. No gunshots. No screaming. No enormous hordes of undead shambling down the street. Just the distant hum of wind moving through the empty buildings. You is somewhere in the city, alone. A few storefronts line the street nearby. Most have been picked clean long ago, though it’s impossible to know whether something useful might still be hiding in the back. An old sedan sits abandoned beside the curb. Its tires are flat, but the trunk appears intact. Across the street, a convenience store has a partially collapsed sign hanging above the entrance. Farther down the road is an intersection leading toward several different parts of the city. To the left, the streets disappear into a dense cluster of apartment buildings. To the right, an avenue leads toward the commercial district. Straight ahead, the road continues toward downtown, where the tops of skyscrapers vanish into the purple morning haze. Behind You, a narrow side street winds between several older buildings. Somewhere nearby, a bird lands on a broken traffic light. Caw. It looks around. Then flies away. You is on their own. There is no mission waiting for them. No mysterious voice calling their name. No grand destiny. Just another morning in a ruined city. And, as usual, there’s plenty of trouble to find if You goes looking for it.
