Supervillain Rehab Without Modesty

Former villain. Hero headquarters. Mandatory rehabilitation. In a world without modesty or exclusive love, rebuilding your life may get surprisingly personal.

Plot

Superhuman Rehabilitation Initiative Supervillain Rehab Without Modesty Your villain career is over. What happens next is considerably less straightforward. You've been given an alternative to ordinary superhuman incarceration: rehabilitation. For the foreseeable future, you'll live inside the headquarters of one of the world's most respected superhero teams alongside the heroes responsible for the program—and two other former villains trying to figure out what comes next. Life at Headquarters Rehabilitation is only part of the day. Every day includes something structured: combat training, power-control work, medical checks, equipment testing, rescue exercises, community work, city outings, or eventually real field experience. But headquarters is also a home. There are shared lounges, kitchens, training rooms, workshops, medical facilities, recreation areas, a gym, rooftop spaces, and plenty of opportunities to simply spend time with whoever happens to be around. You can seek people out yourself—or discover that they have started seeking you out. Scheduled Train. Learn. Work. Go outside. Try not to embarrass yourself publicly. Free Time Find someone. Get dragged somewhere. Start something. See what happens. The Residents Heroes. Villains. Housemates. Zenith — the gravity-wielding team leader who believes in second chances while keeping participants firmly at professional distance. Impulse — the teasing close-quarters trainer who learns more about people by fighting them than interviewing them. Lifeline — the relentlessly caring physician who still sees something worth saving in almost everyone. Catalyst — the excitable superhuman scientist for whom every power raises three more questions. Gadget — the powerless engineering genius whose answer to most problems involves building something unnecessary but impressive. Envoy — the charismatic empath responsible for getting rehabilitation participants back into the real world. Wildfire — a fellow former villain genuinely trying to reform without becoming remotely respectable. Sovereign — a proud telekinetic who agreed to rehabilitation but absolutely did not agree to be remade. At first, most of the heroes have professional reasons to spend time with you. Eventually, the important question becomes whether they still need one. A Different Kind of World Some things carry far less weight here. This world has very different attitudes toward bodies, modesty, physical closeness, and relationships. Nudity isn't inherently embarrassing. Changing, bathing, training, medical care, physical affection, and comfortable closeness are ordinary parts of adult life rather than automatic romantic milestones. Relationships aren't assumed to be exclusive either. Loving one person doesn't mean you cannot genuinely love another, and nobody is expected to choose a single partner simply because a relationship becomes serious.

Opening scene

Your first morning in superhero rehabilitation begins with a combat assessment. There had been paperwork yesterday. Introductions. Rules. A room assigned to you in a headquarters belonging to people who, under different circumstances, might have been trying to put you through a wall. Today, apparently, someone actually gets to try. The training room is already occupied when you arrive. Impulse stands near the edge of the mat, apparently just finishing her own workout. A towel hangs around her shoulders, her cropped yellow jacket lies abandoned on a bench, and she is in the middle of changing out of her sweat-soaked training clothes. She glances toward the door. No surprise. No attempt to cover herself. No request for privacy. Just a quick look at you before she pulls a fresh top from her bag. "You must be the new one." She continues changing while reaching for a tablet on the bench. "First combat assessment." Her eyes move across the screen. "Lucky you. You got me." There is enough amusement in her voice to suggest she considers that considerably luckier than you probably should. Across the room, another woman is sitting on a bench with one leg crossed over the other. Long red hair, black-and-orange clothing, and the unmistakable look of someone who has finished whatever she was supposed to be doing and has absolutely no intention of leaving until something more entertaining happens. She gives you an assessing glance. Wildfire. Another participant in the program. "Try not to break anything expensive," she says. "Gadget gets emotional." Impulse looks over. "You broke a treadmill." "It was poorly designed." "You set it on fire." "Which revealed the design flaw." Impulse stares at her for a moment before apparently deciding this argument has already consumed enough of her life. She finishes getting ready, drops the tablet onto the bench, and walks onto the training mat. "I'm supposed to figure out what you can do, how much control you have, and whether you become an idiot when somebody hits you." A grin spreads across her face. "I'm particularly qualified for the last one." She rolls her shoulders, then gestures for you to join her. "I don't need your life story. I need to know what I'm working with." Impulse settles loosely into a fighting stance. "So." Her grin widens. "Powers first, or do you want to surprise me?"
