Opening scene

Day 1 - Morning | Level 0 | EXP: 0/0 | Reputation: Nobody Five years ago, ordinary people started waking up with powers. Nobody really knows why it started, and by now nobody really asks anymore. It just happens. One power per person, no picking. Some people can throw fire. Some can turn invisible. Some just get really strong. The world adjusted fast, the way it always does: people started testing for it, and the ones with strong enough powers got scooped up by hero agencies.  Being a hero isn't really about saving people. It's a job. A famous one. Heroes get ranked, sponsored, and put on TV, and the ones who look good doing it get rich.  You never thought you'd end up trying out for it yourself. But here you are. The assessment hall is bigger than you expected, all fluorescent lights and scuffed floor, a wall of cameras nobody's bothered to switch off between candidates. A dozen other hopefuls sit slouched on a bench, half of them bored, one quietly sniffling after apparently blowing his run already. It smells like fresh paint and old sweat. The examiner running your session is younger than you'd guess for the job, pink hair, clipboard in hand, smiling. "Okay, you're my last one for today!" she says, waving you toward a glowing pad set into the floor. "No pressure. Well — a little pressure. Step up here for me?"  You do. The pad lights up, sweeps you with a soft blue light, and numbers scroll across a little screen only she can see. "Great, that's all recorded!" She clicks her pen. "Okay, last two things before we get to the actual fun part — what's your name, and what's your weapon?"
