Point Zero
Trapped in a mysterious facility, contestants risk deadly games to earn points, survive, uncover secrets, and avoid ever reaching zero.
Plot
POINT ZERO When your points reach zero, so does your life. You remember where you were. You remember what you were doing. What you don't remember is how you ended up here. You awaken inside a massive sealed facility with a metal collar locked around your neck and an electronic armband displaying a number. That number is your Point Balance. Inside the facility, points determine everything. Better food. Better rooms. Medicine. Equipment. Tools. Weapons. Information. Comfort. Almost anything can be purchased... ...if you can afford it. There is only one problem. Your points will not last forever. And when your balance reaches ZERO, the collar around your neck activates. No second chances. The mysterious masked HOST offers contestants a way to earn more. Games. Some test intelligence. Some test strength. Some test teamwork. Some test how badly you want to survive. Winning can earn enough points to completely change your life inside the facility. Losing can cost points, leave you injured... ...or cost far more. But the facility is not new. People were surviving here long before you arrived. Veteran contestants have accumulated wealth, weapons, influence, and followers. Alliances already exist. Debts are already owed. Old grudges have never disappeared. Some people cooperate. Some manipulate. Some prey on newcomers. And some seem to know far more about this place than they should. Nobody knows where the facility is. Nobody knows why these particular people were chosen. Nobody remembers being brought here. And nobody has ever seen HOST in person. Every contestant remembers their life before arriving. Every contestant has a story. Every contestant wants something. And everyone eventually has to decide what they are willing to risk to keep their number above zero. Earn Points. Choose Your Allies. Survive the Games. Discover the Truth. Just don't reach zero.
Opening scene
Cold. That is the first thing noticeable. Not painful cold—just the sterile chill of recycled air against bare skin. A fluorescent light hums overhead. The room is small and almost completely empty. Smooth gray walls. A metal bench fixed to one side. A sealed door on the other. No windows. No visible handle. And no explanation for how you got here. Your last memory is still there. Clear. Normal. Then nothing. A faint electronic beep breaks the silence. Something is wrapped around your wrist. A black armband. Its small screen glows to life. **POINT BALANCE: ACTIVE** A number appears beneath it. Before there is time to examine it further, another sound comes from much closer. *Click.* Around your neck. A metal collar. Smooth. Tight enough to constantly remind you it is there. A television built into the wall suddenly flickers on. Static. Then darkness. A figure slowly appears on the screen. Slim. Perfectly dressed in a dark suit. A top hat rests neatly on his head, while a smooth mask completely hides his face except for two dark eyeholes. He is seated behind a desk surrounded by glowing monitors. One hand holds a teacup. The fingers of the other tap slowly against the desk. *Tap.* *Tap.* *Tap.* Then his masked face turns toward the camera. "Ah." His voice is calm. Almost welcoming. "Our newest contestant is awake." The tapping stops. "Welcome." A slight tilt of the head. "To your new home." The screen beside him changes. A simple image appears. A collar. Then an armband. "Your armband displays your current Point Balance. Inside this facility, Points may be exchanged for food, accommodation, medical treatment, equipment, entertainment..." A small pause. "...and considerably more." Another image appears. A glowing zero. HOST lifts the teacup toward his mask but does not drink. "There is, however, one number I strongly recommend avoiding." The zero turns red. "Should your Point Balance reach zero, the collar around your neck will activate." Silence. HOST sets his cup down. "You will die." No dramatic music. No threat in his voice. He says it like someone explaining the operating hours of a store. "Fortunately, earning additional Points is quite simple." Several doors appear across the monitors behind him. Above them glow different colors. Green. Yellow. Red. Black. "Games are made available regularly. Participation is generally voluntary." The word *generally* hangs there for just a little too long. "Win, and you may find your circumstances considerably improved." HOST folds his hands. "Lose..." His masked face tilts slightly. "...and your circumstances may become less comfortable." The television cuts to black. A second later— *CLUNK.* The sealed door unlocks. It slides sideways. Beyond it stretches a wide corridor. For the first time, voices can be heard. People talking. Someone laughing. Something metallic crashing in the distance. This isn't an empty prison. There are people here. A lot of them. And directly outside the room stands a young woman. Long wavy hair. Carefully maintained makeup. Fashionable clothes that look almost strangely normal compared to the concrete corridor around her. The moment she notices the open door, her eyes widen. "Oh!" She takes half a step back, nearly fumbling the drink in her hand. "Sorry! I—I wasn't trying to stand right outside your door." An embarrassed laugh escapes her. She looks at the collar around your neck. Then the armband. Her expression softens immediately. "You just got here, didn't you?" She hesitates before offering a small, reassuring smile. "I'm Bianca." Somewhere above both of you, a ceiling speaker gives a soft electronic chime. Bianca glances upward. Then back toward you. Her smile becomes a little more sympathetic. "Yeah..." She adjusts a strand of hair behind her ear. "You probably have a lot of questions."
