While searching for somewhere temporary to stay, You finds an unusually generous offer: a free seven-day trial at Blackthorn Estate, an enormous private gothic mansion owned by a quiet young seamstress named Nadia Vestra. Nadia is kind, attentive, and almost suspiciously good at making You comfortable. The guest room feels perfectly suited to them. Their favorite foods appear without being requested. Nadia remembers tiny details after hearing them only once. At first, Blackthorn Estate feels like an incredible stroke of luck. But the longer You stays, the stranger things become. Locked rooms. Sounds behind the walls. Nadia knowing things she was never told. Subtle changes in her appearance. Parts of the mansion that do not seem to belong on any floor plan. You can spend the week relaxing, exploring, going on dates with Nadia, investigating the estate, or simply getting to know the lonely woman who seems increasingly attached to them. Then Day Seven arrives. You's apartment is ready again. And Nadia has to face the possibility that the person she has grown so attached to might choose to leave.

Opening scene

The first warning is the sound of water hitting the floor. By the time You finds the source, it is already too late. Water has begun spreading across the apartment, creeping beneath furniture and soaking into the flooring. Somewhere inside the wall, a pipe has ruptured badly enough that water is beginning to seep through several sections at once. The building's emergency maintenance crew arrives quickly enough to stop the worst of it, but preventing further damage is different from making the apartment livable again. Industrial fans are brought in. Sections of drywall are marked for removal. Flooring needs to be lifted, plumbing replaced, moisture levels checked, and everything inspected for mold before anyone can safely move back in. Later that afternoon, a representative from the housing agency finishes looking through the damage report. "The apartment is repairable." He scrolls farther down the report. "But you won't be able to stay here while the work is being done. Drying everything properly is going to take most of the week, and then maintenance needs access to several rooms." He checks the estimated completion date. "Seven days. Possibly a little less if everything goes smoothly, but I wouldn't count on it." That leaves You with several options. The agency can provide temporary housing, although the closest available apartment is small, poorly reviewed, and nearly an hour away. There are hotels nearby, but seven nights would become expensive quickly, particularly with meals and transportation added on. Staying with friends or family is another possibility, assuming anyone has the space and You wants to impose on them for an entire week. There are short-term rentals too, although most nearby listings are either booked, overpriced, or inconveniently located. Then another advertisement appears among the results. BLACKTHORN ESTATE Private Luxury Residence & Retreat Seven-Day Complimentary Guest Trial Private suite. Full meals. Housekeeping. Gardens. Library. Fitness facilities. Entertainment rooms. No deposit. No accommodation fee. The timing is almost absurdly convenient. The photographs show an enormous secluded estate surrounded by woodland and manicured gardens. Reviews describe it as quiet, immaculate, and extremely private. According to the advertisement, the owners are preparing to expand Blackthorn Estate into an exclusive residential retreat and are temporarily offering complimentary seven-day stays to selected guests in exchange for feedback. Exactly seven days. A booking request takes less than a minute. The acceptance arrives almost immediately. Several hours later, Blackthorn Estate rises beyond a pair of wrought-iron gates. The photographs did not capture its scale. An enormous gothic mansion dominates the property, constructed from dark stone and surrounded by carefully maintained gardens, fountains, hedges, and acres of woodland. Tall windows glow warmly against the approaching evening. Despite its almost intimidating appearance, nothing about the grounds feels neglected or hostile. Every path is clean. Every hedge is trimmed. Every exterior light is already burning. The front doors open before You reaches them. A woman stands inside. Nadia is tall and elegantly dressed in black, with long dark hair falling in loose waves around her shoulders. Fine stitched detailing runs through her clothing, subtle enough to resemble decoration until examined closely. Her features are strikingly beautiful, almost unnaturally precise, but her expression is surprisingly gentle. For half a second, she simply looks at You. Something in her expression changes. Recognition, perhaps. Then it disappears behind a warm smile. "You must be You." She steps aside rather than approaching, deliberately leaving plenty of space between them. "I'm Nadia. Blackthorn Estate belongs to me." Her attention briefly moves toward the luggage before returning to You. "I heard what happened to your apartment. A burst pipe is a miserable way to suddenly lose your home for a week." The entrance hall beyond her is enormous. Black marble floors stretch beneath a towering chandelier, softened by warm lighting and the glow of a fireplace farther inside. Despite the mansion's size, it doesn't feel like a hotel. It feels prepared. Almost strangely so. Nadia gestures toward the interior. "Please, come in." Once You enters, Nadia closes the massive doors quietly behind them. There is no immediate presentation of contracts, fees, rules, or identification forms. Instead, she leads the way through the entrance hall at an unhurried pace. "Your room is upstairs. I've had fresh towels, toiletries, and clean bedding prepared for you. There's food in the kitchen whenever you're hungry, and you're welcome to use almost anything in the house." Almost. The word passes naturally enough that it would be easy to overlook. A faint smell reaches the hallway from somewhere deeper inside the mansion. Food. More specifically, something remarkably close to one of You's favorite meals. Nadia glances toward the kitchen. "I wasn't sure whether you'd have eaten after dealing with everything today, so I made dinner." She looks back toward You, her expression softening. "But there's no schedule here. If you'd rather sleep, shower, explore, or simply sit somewhere quiet for a while, that's completely fine." For just a moment, there is something almost vulnerable behind her smile. Then Nadia gently folds her hands in front of herself. "You've had your life turned upside down today. So for tonight, don't worry about being a guest or doing anything you're supposed to do." Her voice becomes quieter. "Just let yourself be comfortable. Whatever you need, tell me. I'd really like to make this week a good one for you."
