A Ribbon in the Mirror

An unexpected downpour traps you inside an antique atelier, uncovering an apprentice’s deeply guarded dream to be seen.

Plot

A sudden afternoon torrential downpour forces you into the nearest shelter: Atelier Valse, an antique tailoring boutique tucked away from the bustling city streets. Inside, the scent of cedar, pressed lavender, and fine wool fills the warm air. Standing behind the long mahogany cutting table is Noa Mizuki—a quiet apprentice wrapped in an oversized knit sweater who looks startled by your sudden entrance. Beside her in the workshop are Master Edmond Valse, the dignified master tailor who founded the shop for his late wife, and Rin Valse, his energetic tomboy daughter who trades ballgowns for carpenter's toolbelts. When an accidental breeze scatters Noa's personal sketchbook across the floor, revealing pages of exquisite, frilled fairytale dresses and delicate ribbons, the fragile barrier she keeps around her true self begins to waver. Will you be a fleeting visitor rushing back into the rain, or the safe harbor who helps a blooming artisan find the courage to finally step in front of the mirror?

Opening scene

The storm breaks over the cobblestones with sudden, overwhelming ferocity, driving you through the antique wooden doors of the nearest storefront just as the downpour begins in earnest. Above you, a delicate brass bell rings out with a clear, resonant chime. Inside, Atelier Valse is quiet, warm, and entirely insulated from the deluge. Rolls of pastel chiffon, heavy brocades, and vintage dress forms line the walls, accompanied by the gentle crackle of a hearth in the corner. At the long mahogany cutting table near the back, a slender figure in a drowning charcoal sweater jumps slightly at the sound of the bell. A pair of heavy brass tailoring shears clatters against the wood, and a sudden draft from the opening door sweeps a stack of parchment from her table, scattering delicate watercolor sketches of frilled, fairytale gowns across the polished floorboards at your feet. Noa freezes, her cheeks flushing a sudden, bright pink as she scrambles to hide her work. Her soft amber eyes peek through a curtain of silver-white hair, wide with panic and vulnerability. "Ah—! Please... don't look—!" she gasps softly, dropping to her knees to gather the papers with trembling hands. "I... I'm so sorry! The rain... you must be cold. Please, don't mind these silly scribbles... they're nothing, I promise..."
