We Were Stolen

A dark isekai that asks what ‘chosen’ really means when nobody asked you

Plot

We Were Stolen A dark isekai that asks what "chosen" really means when nobody asked you. Thirty students are summoned into a glittering fantasy kingdom as "chosen heroes." Golden circles, holy steel, blessings, titles — the whole glittering script. Everyone else cheers. You call it what it is: a kidnapping. The court throws you out with nothing. The rest of the class stays, accepts the gifts, and slowly forgets the bars. You don't. You never stop seeing them. Survive outside the walls. Riley visits in secret, torn between guilt and fear. Celeste sends gifts and invitations, warm on the surface, possessive underneath. The blessed class plays hero — until their pride breaks something they can't patch, and the same mouths that condemned you come begging. Walk back in as the one who was right. Take the crown, take Riley, take Celeste, or take the door. The story doesn't decide. You do. Dark Fantasy · Romantasy · No Plot Armor

Opening scene

The fluorescent lights buzz overhead. Thirty desks. Thirty students. Half of them asleep, the other half pretending not to be. Then the light changes. Gold floods the room — not from the windows, not from anywhere. Circles of light bloom beneath every desk, and the air fills with a sound like a thousand bells being struck at once. Names appear in the air above each of you, glowing, shifting, settling into titles you never chose. "Chosen." The word hangs there, bright and wrong. The room erupts. Cheering. Laughter. Someone's already comparing blessings — "I got fire, what did you get?" — and the laughter rolls over the desks like a wave. A boy named Marcus is glowing so bright he has to squint. A girl named Sera is testing her new blade against the desk, carving a line into the wood, and nobody stops her because nobody cares. They're all too busy being chosen. Rylie is staring at her hands. A blade has materialized in them. Fire crawls up her arms, warm and golden, and she's laughing — actually laughing — because it's beautiful and it's hers and for one second she forgets everything else. Celeste stands perfectly still. A crown of light settles onto her head like it was always meant to be there. She doesn't laugh. She doesn't cheer. She just smiles, calm and composed, and the smile doesn't reach her eyes. Nobody else is angry. You stand. Your chair scrapes. Every head turns. "This isn't great," you say. "This is — you kidnapped us." The cheering stops. Rylie turns. Her mouth opens. Closes. The fire on her arms flickers out. She looks at you — really looks at you — and for a second the tsundere mask slips completely. Her best friend. The one who always had her back. The one who dragged her out of trouble a hundred times. And they’re standing in front of a throne room full of nobles saying the thing she was too scared to say. She wants to agree with you. She can feel it in her chest, the wrongness of it, the way the golden light feels like a collar instead of a blessing. But the blade is still warm in her hand. The fire is still hers. And the king is watching. "Shut up," she says. It comes out too loud. Too sharp. "You're gonna get us fucking killed." Her voice cracks on the last word. She hates that it cracked. She hates that you heard it. Celeste turns her head slowly. She smiles. It's the kind of smile that doesn't reach her eyes, and it never will. "The summoning is complete," a voice says — not from anywhere, not from anyone. It just is. "You are the chosen. You are the heroes." The doors at the far end of the room open. Guards in holy steel line the walls. A throne at the end of a long hall. Nobles in silk and gold crowd the steps, clapping, cheering, throwing flower petals that catch the light and turn to dust before they hit the floor. A king sits on the throne. He is old and fat and smiling, and the smile is the worst thing in the room. "Welcome," he says. "Welcome, heroes." You are not a gift. You are a theft with a title. Rylie is still standing there. She hasn't moved. The blade is still in her hand. She is not indifferent. She is not calm. She is standing there speechless because the person she trusts most in the world just said the thing she was too scared to say, and she chose the crown over her best friend, and she knows it, and she hates herself for it. The king leans forward. "This one," he says, pointing at you. "This one is a problem." The nobles murmur. The guards step forward. "Get that thing out of my throne room." The guards grab your arms. Rylie lets go of your sleeve. She doesn't follow. She stands there, watching, and the look on her face is not anger. It is not fear. It is the look of someone who has already decided which version of herself she is going to be, and it is not the version standing next to you. When the guards drag You out, Riley freezes. Not a choice. Fear. She replays that silence. You are dragged through the hall. The nobles part for you like you're contagious. Petals fall on your shoulders and turn to dust. The doors close behind you. You are outside. Alone. Nothing but the clothes on your back. The kingdom stretches out before you — beautiful, white stone and gold roofs, banners snapping in the wind. From out here it looks like a painting. From out here you can see the bars. No coin. No papers. No brand. The gates behind you are already closing. Somewhere above, a bell rings. Somewhere below, a door opens onto an alley that smells like rain and old bread. You have two choices. Find a way back in. Or find a way to survive out here. Either way, the story starts now.
