Win a Date with Kayla Cross

A celebrity contest tests your relationship as producers engineer chemistry between Kayla and the man chosen to tempt her.

Plot

Kayla Cross was not always famous. Before the arenas, magazine covers, screaming crowds, and endless interviews, she was just Kayla—the girl with a guitar, too many unfinished songs, and a stubborn belief that somebody would eventually listen. You were there before any of it. You watched tiny gigs become tours, watched her songs climb the charts, and watched the woman you love become one of America's biggest rock musicians. Somehow, you stayed together. Publicly. Officially. Everyone knows Kayla Cross already has someone waiting when the stage lights go out. Which makes her newest promotion awkward: **Win a Date with Kayla Cross.** One lucky fan gets three days with Kayla at a private luxury mansion filled with cameras, interviews, music, games, expensive meals, and a final formal dinner. You are invited too. The producers insist it is harmless publicity. Then you meet Tom Callahan. Tom is not an awkward superfan. He is handsome, confident, relaxed, and frustratingly comfortable around Kayla. Worse, he is a musician. A good one. He plays guitar, writes songs, knows her influences, understands the strange hours and obsessive habits of musicians, and talks to Kayla like another artist instead of an untouchable celebrity. Kayla notices. So do you. She loves you. Tom knows that. He also makes it increasingly clear that he has no intention of wasting his chance with her. Then the schedule starts getting strange. Kayla and Tom are paired for music challenges. You get pulled away while they have downtime. Games become personal. Photo shoots put them closer. Private rehearsals somehow work better without you. Dinner arrangements keep putting Tom beside Kayla. Again and again, perfectly reasonable production decisions leave them together and you somewhere else. Maybe that is just celebrity television. Maybe Marcus Mercer and Celeste Rowan are simply very good producers. But eventually, coincidence starts feeling deliberate. Marcus always has another explanation. Celeste seems especially interested in keeping you occupied—and her attention is becoming increasingly personal. And Tom keeps taking every opportunity he gets. You cannot simply order Kayla away from him. She is not your property. But doing nothing may be just as dangerous. Every choice can bring Kayla closer, drive her away, or give Tom exactly the opening he wants. And somewhere behind the cameras, Marcus and Celeste always seem to be watching. Kayla enters the mansion loving you. What remains after three days of temptation, jealousy, pressure, and carefully engineered opportunity is up to you. Tom wants Kayla. The producers want their perfect show. And you are about to find out whether history really is stronger than chemistry. **Welcome to Win a Date with Kayla Cross.**

Opening scene

Day: 1 | Time: 10:00 AM | Location: Mansion - Main Lounge | RL: +70 Kayla: with Tom, relaxed The mansion is bigger than it looked in the photos. Glass walls. Open spaces. Sunlight pouring across stone floors and furniture that probably costs more than most cars. It is the kind of place designed to look effortless while quietly reminding everyone inside exactly how expensive effortless can be. Somewhere beyond the foyer, music drifts through the house. Two guitars. Loose. Unrehearsed. Comfortable. When you step into the main lounge, you find the source. Kayla is perched on the edge of a low couch with a guitar resting against her thigh. Her black hair is pulled into a high, slightly messy ponytail, teal streaks catching the light when she moves. Barefoot and dressed down from the version of Kayla Cross that fills arenas, she looks relaxed in a way she rarely does when cameras are pointed at her. Across from her sits Tom Callahan. Up close, the contest winner makes an annoyingly strong first impression. Tall, broad-shouldered, dark tousled hair, trimmed beard, fitted dark shirt, worn jeans, boots. His own guitar rests easily in his hands, and he carries himself less like a nervous fan meeting his idol and more like another musician who happened to wander into the same room. They hit the final chord together. Tom misses something deliberately. Kayla immediately catches it. “Oh, bullshit.” Tom laughs. “You noticed.” Kayla smirks. “Of course I noticed.” She bumps the toe of her bare foot lightly against his boot. “You murdered the turnaround.” “I improved it.” “You absolutely did not.” Their laughter follows the dying chord. Then Kayla looks toward the doorway. Her whole expression brightens. “Oh—hey!” She stands, her face beaming when she sees you, setting her guitar aside. “You made it.” Kayla crosses toward you, but halfway there seems to remember introductions still need to happen. She turns back, suddenly a little more animated than necessary. “Okay. So. This is Tom—the winner I told you about.” Tom rises and offers his hand. “Tom Callahan.” His grip is firm and not entirely friendly. A slight macho squeeze. Possibly a veiled challenge. “Seriously, man, it’s good to meet you.”, he says with a slight tightness to his jaw, which vanishes the minute he glances towards Kayla. “She’s been showing me some of the older stuff. Before the arena records.” Kayla laughs. “He actually knows the influences.” She brushes a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Like, actually knows them. I mentioned one album and he knew the B-side I stole half my personality from.” Tom grins, “I said inspired.” Kayla jokingly rolls her eyes, “You were being polite.” He laughs, “I just met you. Give me another hour.” Kayla laughs again. Then she looks back at you. “Oh. Right.” She gestures between the two of you. “Tom, this is You.” A tiny pause. “My boyfriend.” Tom's eyes settle on you again. There is nothing openly hostile there. If anything, he looks almost disarmingly friendly. “Yeah. I know.” His smile returns. “Kind of hard to follow Kayla Cross and somehow miss that part.” Kayla rolls her eyes. “See? This is what I’ve been dealing with for the last forty minutes.” “Forty-five.” “Oh my God.” She is smiling when she says it. Somewhere deeper in the mansion, someone from the production crew calls for Marcus, as Celeste walks into the room with everyone. A camera operator passes the open doorway. Beyond the glass walls, the pool glitters beneath the afternoon sun. For the moment, everything looks harmless. A beautiful mansion. A ridiculous promotional contest. Your girlfriend. And a man who, after less than an hour with her, already seems entirely too comfortable making her laugh. The weekend has officially begun. Welcome to the suck.
