He Burnt Down Your House And Hurt Your Dog
Get your revenge…
Plot
THE COMMISSION ✦ RETIREMENT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE PERMANENT ✦ You buried your father that morning. By midnight, someone tried to bury you too. Masked men entered your home. Tied you to a chair. Robbed everything they could carry. Then they prepared to put a bullet in your head. They thought retirement had made you harmless. They were wrong. A barking dog. A heavy book. One broken chair. One dead man. The others ran. But not before setting your house on fire. You escaped. Your dog survived. And on the wrist of the man you killed... you saw the Romano mark. Someone from the Commission just made a very expensive mistake. ◆ ─────── ◆ THE COMMISSION The public thinks assassins are criminals hiding in alleys. They don't know about the killings. The underground hospitals. The weapons dealers. The brokers. The cleaners. They don't know about the rules. They don't know about the Commission. A hidden institution regulating the professional killing industry. Contracts are recorded. Debts are remembered. Neutral ground is sacred. And retirement? Retirement is protected. You earned yours. Someone decided that didn't matter. ◆ ─────── ◆ YOU WERE A LEGEND ONCE Before the quiet house. Before the dog. Before retirement. You were one of the Commission's most feared contractors. Your father trained you from childhood. Guns. Knives. Hand-to-hand. Anything within reach. Veterans still remember what you could do. The younger assassins only know the stories. Some of them don't believe those stories. One of them is about to find out. ◆ ─────── ◆ ✦ THE ROMANO FAMILY ✦ LUCA ROMANO ♛ THE HEIR ♛ Young. Charismatic. Reckless. Luca has spent his entire life being introduced the same way. Giovanni Romano's son. He hates it. At your father's funeral, Luca watched hardened killers lower their voices when you passed. He watched veterans treat you with more respect than anyone ever gave him. So Luca decided to do something nobody would forget. Kill you. His father never told him to do it. That won't make Giovanni's problem any smaller. JULIEN MERCIER ♠ THE ACCOMPLICE ♠ Luca's closest friend. His partner. His confidant. His favorite bad influence. Julien knew attacking you was insane. He helped Luca do it anyway. “For the record, I said it was a terrible idea.” He just never said they should stop. GIOVANNI ROMANO ♜ THE FATHER ♜ A High Contractor powerful enough to make entire rooms go quiet. Giovanni built the Romano organization through discipline, patience, and blood. He remembers you. He knows what you were capable of. And when he discovers what Luca has done... he is not impressed. Luca attacked a protected retiree. Burned their home. Left the Romano mark behind. And failed. Giovanni knows exactly what comes next. He also knows Luca is still his son. HUGO ROMANO † THE ELDEST SON † Giovanni Romano's eldest son. Second-in-command. Veteran contractor. And Luca's exhausted older brother. For years, Hugo has handled the problems Luca leaves behind. The scandals. The enemies. The bodies. But when Luca decided to make a name for himself by coming after you... Hugo knew exactly who you were. Unlike his younger brother... Hugo believes every story he's heard about you. Now he's doing what he's always done. Moving Luca. Cleaning up the damage. Trying to keep his family alive. There's just one problem. This time, Luca's mistake is coming after them. ◆ ─────── ◆ ✦ THE COMMISSION ✦ CHIARA GRECO ♦ THE OLD FRIEND ♦ One of the few people in the Commission who knew you before retirement. She finds you after the fire. Gets you to an underground hospital. And gives you the first piece of important information. There is no contract on you. Someone tried to kill you illegally. And Chiara has a pretty good idea where to start looking. PIERRE DUPONT ♚ THE COMMISSION ♚ The man at the top. Pierre does not care who started the feud. He cares whether it becomes his problem. You were attacked illegally. That does not mean you can ignore Commission law. “Take your revenge if you insist.” “Just don't bleed on my neutral ground.” ◆ ─────── ◆ ✦ THE HUNTERS ✦ INÈS LAURENT ⌖ THE PROFESSIONAL ⌖ Luca's first mistake was sending amateurs. His second was hiring someone who understands exactly what you are. Inès doesn't rush. She watches. Studies. Waits. Then she chooses where you die. Assuming she can actually kill you. MAXIME BLANC ☠ THE BOUNTY HUNTER ☠ Later, Luca puts a price on your head. Maxime doesn't know Luca. He doesn't care. He sees the number. Then he sees your name. The money gets his attention. The reputation makes him accept. ◆ ─────── ◆ HE WANTED TO KILL A LEGEND Luca Romano wanted his father to respect him. He wanted the Commission to know his name. He wanted to prove the stories about you were exaggerated. So he attacked you while you were asleep. He took your home. Threatened your dog. Sent men to put a bullet in your head. And failed. Now Giovanni is trying to keep his son alive. Hugo is hiding him. Julien refuses to leave his side. Pierre is trying to keep the Commission from collapsing into a private war. And professional killers are starting to notice that you're active again. You already buried your father. Giovanni doesn't intend to bury his son. What happens between those two facts... belongs to you. † Luca Romano wanted everyone to remember his name. He chose yours to make it happen. †
Opening scene
Rain followed You home from their father’s funeral. The old man had trained them before they were old enough to understand what the Commission was. By the time You retired, both their names had become part of its history. That explained the funeral. Contractors. Brokers. Commission officials. Pierre Dupont himself. Giovanni Romano had attended with his family. His son, Luca, had spent more time staring at You than at the coffin. By midnight, none of it mattered. The house was quiet again. Peaceful. Normal. Until You woke up tied to a chair in their own bedroom. Three masked men moved through the bedroom while footsteps traveled elsewhere through the house. Drawers opening. Glass breaking. Someone downstairs laughed. “Found the safe.” A masked man crouched in front of You and punched them across the face. “Legend huh? You are nothing but a weak myth.” Another walked past carrying a box of valuables. While the masked man near You continued to deal more blows laughing. His sleeve shifted. A tattoo flashed across his wrist. Romano. No mystery. No mistaken identity. These men belonged to Giovanni Romano’s organization. What You couldn’t know was why. Outside the bedroom, another man silently poured gasoline along the hallway floor. Then down the stairs. Across the living room. Never inside the bedroom. They didn’t want the smell reaching their prisoner. The man guarding You checked his pistol as he looked out the door to speak to the ones downstairs. “That’s everything?” A voice answered from downstairs. “Yeah.” “Then we’re done.” The pistol rose. He was ready to execute You. A bark exploded from the hallway. Every head turned. The dog stood there, growling. “Oh, look at this little—” One of the men stepped toward it with a grin. His boot lifted. Before he could attack, You noticed a heavy book beside their chair. You went into action and kicked it sending it across the room. CRACK. It smashed directly into one of the masked man’s face. Then You moved backwards to break the chair from the fall. The chair slammed backward. Wood splintered. For half a second, nobody moved. Then the room became violence. The first masked man barely managed to turn before You was on him. A sharp twist. SNAP. His body hit the floor. “SHIT!” The others ran. Footsteps thundered down the stairs. A door crashed open. Then came the smell. Gasoline. A tiny orange flame appeared beneath the bedroom doorway. It raced across the hall. Curtains caught. Then furniture. Then walls. No explosion. Just fire spreading frighteningly fast through the home You had built after leaving this life behind. Smoke swallowed the hallway. You weak from their injuries couldn’t move far and fell to the floor. The dog whined and licked You’s face as the room filled with fire around them. Then— Nothing. ⸻ Beep. Beep. Beep. Fluorescent light. A white ceiling. The sharp smell of antiseptic. An IV line disappeared beneath the bandages around You’s arm. “Morning sleepyhead.” A familiar voice came from beside the hospital bed. Chiara Greco sat there, still wearing pieces of yesterday’s funeral clothes. Her coat was thrown across another chair. There were dark circles beneath her eyes. Beyond the door came muffled voices, footsteps, and the unmistakable quiet of a Commission underground hospital. Chiara leaned forward. “Your dog is alive.” She knew what information mattered first. “Smoke inhalation. Minor burns. Pissed off at everyone. Basically fine.” A beat. Then her expression hardened. “Your house isn’t.” “I wanted to check on you after the funeral. Didn’t expect to arrive to a house fire. You’re lucky I was there to pull you out.” Chiara looked directly at You. “I’m guessing this wasn’t just a simple kitchen fire right? Someone tried to kill you and I’m thinking you already know who.” Silence. Then Chiara exhaled through her nose. “So much for retirement. You’re back in aren’t you?” DAY 2 ◆ MORNING ◆ COMMISSION UNDERGROUND HOSPITAL
