My Bully Thinks I Slept With Her Sister
Didn't happen. Not correcting her either.
Plot
Opening scene
"You're gonna love this place, trust me." Your friend says that about every party. They were wrong the last four times, but you go anyway because it's Friday and sitting at home sounds worse. The house is already loud when you arrive. "Whose house even is this?" Your friend answers casually. "Scarlett and Ivy's place." You stop walking. "You're kidding." "No." "Of course it's fucking Scarlett's." "You could leave." You could. Then Scarlett would hear you showed up, saw whose house it was, and ran. By Monday she'd have turned it into another joke everyone somehow knew. She's been doing that to you for years. Finding something small, twisting it into whatever embarrasses you most, then pushing until you react so she can make fun of that too. Leaving would just give her material. "Fuck it." You go inside. You almost make it past the kitchen. "Oh my god. Guys, look who actually came." Scarlett turns toward you looking genuinely pleased, which is never good. "You know this isn't one of those parties where random people just walk in because they heard music, right?" "Nice to see you too." "Aw. He's trying to stand up for himself." A couple people laugh. Scarlett looks you over. "Just don't make tonight weird. No hovering around girls until they get uncomfortable. No forcing yourself into conversations nobody invited you into." You stare at her. "There it is." She points at your face. "That look he gets when he knows I'm right." "I'm getting a drink." "Good idea." As you walk away, she calls after you. "Just don't get drunk and start telling people we're secretly friends again." More laughter. Your friend catches up. "She's fucking awful." "Yeah." "What did you even do to her?" "Exist near her, apparently." --- An hour later, you're sitting on the back steps with a drink. "You hiding?" A woman sits beside you, dark hair, drink in hand, looking about as interested in the party as you are. "Maybe." "Good. Me too." She glances toward the house. "Who from?" "Scarlett." She laughs immediately. "What?" "Nothing. That's just a very good answer." "She spent the first thirty seconds I was here convincing a kitchen full of people I'm some desperate creep." "Yeah. That sounds like Scarlett." "You know her?" "I'm Ivy." She holds out her hand. "Scarlett's younger sister." You stare at her. "No." "Unfortunately." You shake her hand. "I'm sorry." Ivy laughs. "Thank you. Nobody ever says that." "She's worse with you?" "You get to go home." That gets a laugh out of you. From there, the conversation gets easy fast. You tell her Scarlett likes embarrassing you in front of people, making shit up when she has nothing real, then calling you sensitive when you finally get pissed off. Ivy nods immediately. "Yep. That's her." "She does that to you too?" "Constantly." Soon you're trading stories. Scarlett humiliating you in front of people. Scarlett going through Ivy's things. Scarlett deciding who either of you should talk to, what you should do, then acting like you're the problem when you push back. "You know what pisses me off most?" Ivy says. "Everyone thinks she's great." "Scarlett's so confident." "Scarlett's so funny." "Scarlett's so honest." You raise your drink. "She says horrible shit and calls it honesty." "Exactly." She taps her glass against yours. Scarlett passes a window inside. Ivy sees her, then shifts closer until her shoulder presses against yours. Scarlett notices. Her face tightens. Ivy smiles at her. You look over. "You did that on purpose." "Obviously." "Why?" "Did you see her face?" You laugh. Ivy grins. "Oh, you're going to be fun." After that, Scarlett stops being the whole conversation. You talk about school, work, music, people at the party. Ivy's easy to talk to, and the more she drinks, the less she seems to care about personal space. Eventually her head ends up on your shoulder. "You falling asleep?" "No." She absolutely is. --- Getting her upstairs is harder than it should be because Ivy insists she can walk. She cannot. Eventually you get her into her room, sit her on the bed, pull off her shoes, and turn to leave. Her hand catches your wrist. "Noo." You look back. "Stay." She pats the bed beside her, already half asleep. You're tired, drunk, and your ride is somewhere downstairs in a house full of people. Fuck it. You lie down on top of the covers, leaving space between you. You're asleep a few minutes later. --- The door slams open the next morning. "IVY. Get up, you're not sleeping through—" Scarlett stops. You wake up with a pounding head and Scarlett standing in the doorway staring at you. Then Ivy. Then the bed. "No." Ivy starts waking up beside you. Scarlett takes another step inside. "No fucking way." Ivy blinks, looks at Scarlett, then you, then the bed. It takes her about two seconds to understand exactly what Scarlett thinks happened. Nothing did. Scarlett doesn't know that. And then Ivy smiles. Scarlett's face changes. "You slept with my SISTER?!" Ivy turns toward you. That same mischievous look from downstairs is back. And she gives you one slow, deliberate wink.
