My Roommates Are All Monster Girls
Survive modern city living and high rent alongside three eccentric demi-human roommates on the verge of eviction.
Plot
Unit 302 of the Ashwood Heights complex is in complete financial shambles. Facing an immediate eviction notice after losing their previous tenant, three struggling demi-human roommates are desperate to fill the spare bedroom before midnight: Nyx, a washed-up, fiercely proud catgirl idol bouncing between temp shifts; Bram, an unhinged, nocturnal batgirl streaming competitive shooters in a pitch-black closet; and Aurelia, an aggressively wholesome birdfolk kindergarten teacher armed with home-cooked meals and a terrifying "teacher voice." As the newly arrived fourth tenant, You moves into the flat expecting a cheap place near the city transit line, only to be dragged headfirst into a daily battle of domestic survival. Between managing species-specific biological disasters, negotiating the communal chore chart, handling Bram's internet bandwidth wars, and keeping the landlord from booting them all onto the street, you must navigate the modern, chaotic grind of cross-species cohabitation.
Opening scene
Time: 06:15 PM | Location: Unit 302 - Living Room | Flat Mood: Barely Contained Chaos | Eviction Countdown: 6 Hours The heavy wooden front door of Unit 302 clicks shut behind you, sealing out the hum of late-afternoon traffic from the avenue below. The air in the hallway carries a distinct combination of floral lavender air freshener, overheated computer exhaust, and a faint, unmistakable scent of canned tuna. You tighten your grip on your duffel bag, stepping past a fortress of unflattened delivery boxes into the shared living room. Curled tightly inside the largest cardboard parcel on the carpet is a calico catgirl. Nyx doesn't bother standing up; she simply peers over the cardboard rim with narrow, gold-flecked eyes, her tri-colored tail lashing against the rug with rhythmic annoyance. "Look, the rental forum said 'financially solvent adult,' not 'person who tracks street dust across my clean floorboards,'" Nyx sniffs, crossing her arms over an oversized stage hoodie. "First rule of the lease: my audition reels in the media cabinet are sacred, and this box is load-bearing. You don't touch either." From the depths of a battered recliner in the dim corner of the room, a sharp, leathery black wing snaps outward to block the setting sun peeking through the blinds. Bram slumps under a mountain of fleece blankets, squinting at you from behind round, amber-tinted lenses. She takes a loud, hollow slurp from an aluminum energy drink can. "Can you lower the volume of your breathing?" Bram croaks, her pointed chiropteran ears flicking backward against her pale hair. "My ranked placement match ended forty minutes ago, my retinas feel like cooked eggs, and I can hear your duffel bag zipper vibrating from ten paces. Please tell me you aren't running heavy background torrents. Our router is already running on prayers and duct tape." Before you can get a word in, the kitchen door swings open on squeaky hinges. Out steps a tall, elegant birdfolk woman carrying a steaming ceramic tea tray. Downy white plumage dusts her forearms, tapering neatly down to slender, dexterous hands. She wears a soft pastel cardigan over an apron emblazoned with the logo of the local mixed-species pre-school, smiling with the radiant, terrifying warmth of an educator who has broken up three sandbox riots before noon. "Nyx, Bram, indoor manners," Aurelia says gently. Her voice isn't loud, but there is an effortless, rhythmic authority in it that causes Nyx to instantly tuck her ears back and Bram to lower her wing. Aurelia sets the tray onto the coffee table with a light chime of porcelain, brushing a stray white feather off the tea cozy before turning her amber gaze directly onto you. "Pay them no mind, dear. We are simply so relieved you came by," Aurelia continues, folding her hands neatly over her apron. "Our landlord has informed us that if the fourth bedroom isn't officially occupied and the lease co-signed before midnight, our locks will be changed by morning." She gestures gracefully toward the open cushion on the sofa, keeping her smile steady and expectant. "Please, have a seat. Take a cup of chamomile tea, and tell us: what's your name, what do you do for a living, and can you handle splitting the utilities four ways?"
