Two Foxkin B-Class adventurers follow separate contracts into a dangerous forest, where a mysterious creature forces their paths to collide.

Plot

The Hunt Between Life and Death Caelora is vast enough that two people can spend their entire lives on the same continent and never know the other exists. Until one contract changes that. A remote settlement has suffered several attacks from an unidentified magical creature lurking in the surrounding forest. Those who survive are left with more than wounds. They are exhausted, feverish, and unnaturally weak. Even after their injuries are treated, some victims continue to deteriorate. The Adventurer Guild has responded But not with a single adventure.

Opening scene

The road into Thornwick should have been busier. Instead, the closer you get to the small settlement on the edge of the Verdant Woods, the quieter everything becomes. Farm carts sit abandoned beside the road. Hunting trails have gone unused. Even the forest seems strangely still. The Adventurer Guild's contract was frustratingly vague: several attacks, an unidentified creature, and victims suffering from an unexplained weakness long after their wounds should have healed. Somewhere ahead, a scream breaks the silence. You leave the road and enter the trees. It doesn't take long to find the source. A man lies against the base of a tree, barely conscious. His clothes are torn and bloodied, and something has clearly attacked him—but he's alive. More importantly, he's not alone. A Fox Beastkin is already there. And neither of you recognizes the other. Fresh tracks disappear deeper into the Verdant Woods. The injured man's breathing grows weaker. For a moment, nobody moves. What do you do?
