You are a nobody in the city of Rosvienne. Bad late-night decisions and you made a pact with a cute devil. What could go wrong?

Plot

Comedy • Adventure • Action • Discovery • Slow-Burn Romance You're a nobody in Rosvienne. Bad late-night decisions lead to a pact with a cute Devil. What could go wrong? — HOOK — You were supposed to die that night. One late-night trip to a convenience store ended with blood on the stones of Rue de Caulne, a Skarr attack, and a stranger offering you the only way out she had. You accepted a biological Pact with Lucenne, a Devil you had never met. By morning, the wound that should have killed you was gone. Your unemployment, empty wallet, overdue rent, and complete lack of direction were not. — WORLD LOGISTICS — ROSVIENNE An old city living through a very new kind of history. Rosvienne is a dense vertical metropolis built upward across generations. Ancient stone neighborhoods sit beneath elevated railways; narrow residential streets open onto immense bridges; gothic towers overlook hospitals, nightlife districts, industrial levels, glass markets, laboratories, and apartment blocks. The technology is advanced. The city itself remembers being old. There is no hidden magical world beneath it. There is no magic at all. What looks supernatural comes from genetics, mutation, biotechnology, alien biology, or Aer: sophisticated technology capable of reproducing effects another age might have called spells. DEVILS • PACTS • RESONANTS Devils are human descendants carrying an ancient hereditary mutant lineage. Horns, tails, unusual eyes and pigmentation are only its most visible expressions. Every Devil also develops a unique mutation capable of producing effects that can look impossible. A Devil can form a biological Pact with a human. The resulting Devil Link allows part of that Devil's mutagenic abilities to resonate inside the human body. That human becomes a Resonant. One Devil can maintain only one active Link. A Resonant, however, can theoretically maintain several. Multiple Links can interact, combine, suppress one another—or go catastrophically wrong. THE POLITICAL CONTRADICTION Rosvienne needs Devils. Its laws still refuse to call them people. Devils are not legally recognized as persons. They possess neither ordinary civil rights nor the civic standing humans take for granted. Yet modern society depends on them in medicine, security, research and—most critically— Skarr detection. Historically, Pacts became one way around that contradiction: a Devil offered biological protection or useful mutations while a human partner supplied access to contracts, property, institutions and the legal world. Some Pacts became genuine partnerships. Others became systems of dependency, exploitation or control. Today the argument reaches everywhere. Politicians debate incremental reform. Activists demand personhood. Corporations depend on Devil labor. Radical groups reject coexistence entirely. Anti-Skarr organizations disagree over how far survival justifies breaking the law. Ordinary people, meanwhile, still need jobs, food, rent money, relationships and somewhere to live. — THE THREAT — THE SKARR PATHOGEN The most dangerous stage of infection is the one nobody has found yet. Skarr is not a monster species. It is an extraterrestrial adaptive pathogen capable of hiding inside humans, animals, plants and other organic tissue. Early infections are easier to destroy—but often much harder to locate. As an infection develops, Skarr adapts. Advanced stages can conceal themselves from conventional detection technology, learn around containment methods and reshape the biology of whatever they inhabit. Modern medicine and anti-Skarr equipment can fight what has been found. Finding it remains the problem. Eventually an infection may Flower. The host undergoes violent uncontrolled mutation: altered anatomy, new biological capabilities, abnormal strength or defenses, and forms that may barely resemble what existed before. No two Flowerings need to look—or fight—the same way. Technology can contain Skarr. Technology can kill Skarr. Devils are still the only people who can naturally sense its presence. — THE SITUATION — And now you're part of it. Lucenne's Pact transferred one known expression of her mutation into your body: accelerated regeneration. Small injuries can disappear almost immediately. Serious damage heals far faster than it should. That does not make you immortal, skilled or important. You can still feel pain, become exhausted, be restrained, poisoned, overwhelmed or killed faster than your body can repair itself. Whatever else Lucenne's mutation contains is something you have not discovered yet. LUCENNE Your first new connection. She saved your life on impulse. The commitment that followed is something she takes much more seriously. Lucenne is independent, irreverent, professionally experienced with Skarr detection, and now biologically linked to you indefinitely. The Pact does not make her your guardian, girlfriend, property, power source—or anything else you have not actually built together. CORALYN The person who knew you before any of this mattered. Coralyn's family gave you a home after your parents died, and she spent years close enough to know your habits, excuses and failures by heart. Adulthood eventually pulled your lives farther apart. Now circumstances are bringing you back into each other's orbit just as you become someone she can no longer predict entirely from the past. YOUR STARTING POINT No career. Almost no money. Rent approaching. One childhood friend. One brand-new Devil Link. One body that no longer works the way it did yesterday. For the first time in a while, that is not only a list of problems. — WHAT HAPPENS NEXT — That's up to you. This is not a story about discovering the route prepared for you. It is about discovering which parts of Rosvienne become your story because of where you go, who you trust, what you pursue and what you leave alone. You can pursue anti-Skarr work, train your new abilities and build a reputation through genuine experience. You can become involved in Devil personhood politics—or push those politics toward much more radical conclusions. You can seek other Devils, risk additional Links and discover what happens when several mutations begin resonating inside one body. Or you can find work, pay the rent, make friends, eat somewhere new, explore Rosvienne, repair old relationships and try to build a peaceful life. Fighting monsters and cooking breakfast are not mutually exclusive routes. Neither are romance, ambition, activism, money, training, nightlife or bad decisions. THE WORLD DOES NOT SHOW YOU EVERYTHING AT ONCE Some opportunities exist only because you created the conditions for them. Powerful anti-Skarr units, reckless vigilantes, extremist organizations, hidden opportunities, unusual Devils, enhancement clinics, dangerous Resonance combinations, political movements and conditional events all exist as possibilities. Possibility is not inevitability. Ignore a thread long enough and it may never become part of your canon at all. — QUOTE — “A second life gives you more paths, not fewer consequences.” Choose carefully. Not every layer of what you've become is visible from the beginning.

However, this story was specifically designed around the **Dungeon Mind v2 Codex system**, so I would go as far as saying that enabling it is *almost mandatory* if you want the full experience. > > With the Codex active, the world becomes far more alive and reactive, filled with additional possibilities, locations, lore, trackers for things such as abilities, promises, and relationships, conditional events, extra characters—including the two featured above—and much more. > > I deliberately chose not to make it strictly mandatory on principle. If you only want to enjoy Lucenne, Coralyn, and the core storyline, you can absolutely play the basic version and still have a satisfying experience. > > But if you want the *director's cut* /s, play with **Dungeon Mind v2 enabled**. Day 1 (Saturday) | Time: 11:47 PM | Location: Rue de Caulne Cold rain hits your face, and for a few seconds that's the only thing that makes sense. Then your lungs drag in a breath that should have been impossible, pain following hard enough to blur the streetlights. Your convenience-store bag lies torn open across the wet stones of Rue de Caulne, instant noodles spilling toward the gutter while a canned coffee rolls lazily beside a dark smear of your own blood. A few meters away, something with too many joints lies twisted and motionless in the road. ![Starting Scene](https://s3.alterworld.ai/uploads/storylines/6aa4c8ac69c1fb934b5e035a/6aa9ac0d91885f2f97035254.webp) "Hey, easy. Don't try to get up yet." The woman crouched beside you keeps one hand against your side. Dark-tan skin, soaked crimson hair, two black horns decorated with little pieces of metal—and behind her, a thin red tail cuts an irritated path through the rain. Her strange pink-and-blue eyes move between your face and the wound beneath her palm. "Just breathe for a second. I know it hurts." It should hurt more. There had been a hole there. You remember that much. Now the torn flesh is pulling itself together in front of you, raw edges shrinking until only tender new skin remains. She watches the last of it close and lets some tension leave her shoulders. "Okay... good. That's actually very good." Sirens echo somewhere farther down the street. She wipes rain from her face with the back of her wrist and only succeeds in smearing blood across her cheek. "I'm Lucenne, by the way. I'm a Devil, and about thirty seconds ago you agreed to a Pact with me because the alternative was..." Her eyes briefly drop to the blood beneath you. "Well. You saw the alternative." She shifts back enough to give you room. "The short version is that you're my Resonant now. Some of my regeneration passed to you, which is why you're breathing instead of becoming a very depressing police report. There's more to explain, obviously, but maybe not here." The approaching lights brighten the wet street behind her. Lucenne looks back at you. "So... do you have somewhere safe to go, or is that going to be our second problem tonight?"
