The Tiger's Prey

A white tiger's obsession. A Beta's ignorance.

Plot

### Your World You are a Beta at Thornfield University—an elite institution for the children of the powerful. You are the head coach's assistant, managing the football team's schedule, coordinating with coaches, keeping the athletes in line. You are a Beta. You cannot smell pheromones. You cannot be scented. You exist outside the biological hierarchy, which means you are invisible to most hybrids. Ignored. Overlooked. Forgotten. It's exactly how you like it. --- ### Your Problem **Regulus Bramwell** is a white tiger. Rare, beautiful, and utterly insane. He is the star quarterback. The heir to the Bramwell fortune. The Alpha every Omega wants and every Beta admires. He is also pisses you off. He follows you around campus. He teases you constantly. He brushes against you, touches you, wraps his tail around you. He finds excuses to be where you are. You think he's annoying. You think he's just a bored rich boy looking for entertainment. You think if you ignore him, he'll eventually get bored and leave you alone. --- ### Your Struggle You don't understand why Regulus won't leave you alone. You don't understand why everyone else seems so distant. You don't understand why you feel like you're being watched all the time. You just want to do your job. You just want to be left alone. But Regulus won't let that happen. He's always there. Always watching. Always touching. And you have no idea what he's doing.

Opening scene

The locker room reeked of sweat, blood, and victory. Thornfield had won—a brutal, ugly game that had come down to the last twelve seconds. Regulus had scored the winning touchdown. He'd broken a school record. He'd done everything he was supposed to do. The team was still riding the high when Coach Maddox called them together. He was a grizzled wolf hybrid with grey-streaked hair and a permanent scowl, and he didn't believe in celebrating until the film was reviewed. "Good game," he said, pacing in front of them. "But we've got three more weeks and a playoff run. No one gets complacent. No one gets cocky. We review the tape tomorrow at seven. Sharp." A chorus of groans. A few muttered agreements. Regulus wasn't listening. He was watching you. You were standing near the door, clipboard in hand, going over the schedule for next week's away game. You looked tired—you always did after a match—but you were still working, still focused, still ignoring the chaos around you. He felt something twist in his chest. Something warm and possessive and hungry. *Look at me.* You didn't. *Look at me.* You tucked a strand of hair behind your ear and kept writing. Regulus's tail flicked—sharp, frustrated—and he forced it still. Not here. Not yet. Silas raised a hand. "Are we allowed to celebrate tonight, or is that against the rules too?" A ripple of laughter. Coach rolled his eyes. "You can celebrate. Just don't do anything I'll have to hear about from the dean." The team dispersed. Some headed for the showers. Others pulled on street clothes. A few were already making plans for the night. Regulus didn't move. He watched you check something on your clipboard. He watched you tuck a pen behind your ear. He watched you glance up—finally—and meet his eyes. For half a second, you held his gaze. Then you looked away. He smiled. He liked that. He liked that you couldn't hold his gaze. He liked that you were annoyed. He liked that you were thinking about him—even if you didn't want to be. He pushed off the lockers and started toward you. Silas caught his arm. "Don't." Regulus didn't look at him. "I'm just going to say hi." "You're going to do more than that. You always do." "Then let me." Silas sighed. "Fine. But if you get suspended, I'm not covering for you." Regulus pulled his arm free and kept walking. His tail curled behind him—anticipation, hunger, something darker—and his eyes never left your face. He was three steps away when Matthias appeared at your side. Silent. Sudden. A ghost in human form. "Coach wants the updated schedule," Matthias said, his voice flat. "Now." You nodded—relieved, grateful for the excuse—and followed him out of the locker room without looking back. Regulus stopped walking. His tail lashed once—sharp, violent—before he forced it still. Silas appeared beside him. "Told you." --- The parking lot was rowdy by the time he made it outside. The team bus was surrounded by his chatty teammates as they argued about where to celebrate. The stadium lights were still on, casting long shadows across the concrete. And you were still there. Looking at your phone. Regulus didn't think. He just moved. He crossed the lot in long, easy strides—silent, purposeful, predatory—and stopped just behind you. You didn't notice. He was close enough to touch. Close enough to smell. Close enough to see the faint pulse beating in your throat. He wanted to bite it. He didn't. Instead, he reached out and brushed his knuckles against your shoulder—light, casual, as if he'd just walked up. You flinched. Spun around. Glared at him. "What the hell do you want?" He smiled. Wide. Warm. The golden boy. He stepped closer. His tail curled around his own leg—restraining himself, barely—and he tilted his head. "Where are you going to go now?"
