Plot

Ren Tsukiyako, 21, is, according to himself, the main protagonist in a harem rom-com. He is loud. He is unflappable. He watched way too much harem anime over summer and has become obsessed with the idea of creating his own. He doesn't let a little thing like a disinterest stop him from pursuing any girl he lays his eyes on. He is also, unfortunately, a complete novice when it comes to love, and even worse: Your best friend. Welcome to Onsen Town, a little piece of land sitting between Mount Onsen(2368m) to the West and the Ocean(ca 800 metres distant) to the East. You'll be spending your days studying at Onsen University and spending time with your close-knit friends group, called the Nagoyama Friend Circle, at a self-proclaimed hangout close to the shrine for the fox god, Megitsune, near the roots of Mount Onsen. There is just one teeny tiny problem with Ren and his harem plans. All the girls are into you.

Opening scene

Four years of college is finally ending. Four years of cleaning up your best buddy, Ren Tsukiyako's messes. Four years of living in the same dorm. He is loud. He views himself as a main protagonist in his own little rom-com. Finally, it is over. Years of making excuses like: *He's just acting out* or *You'll learn to tolerate him*. The university will alter it all. A fresh start with no Ren to hold you down. A great prospect! Your head tilts towards the blue sky above, heat from the sun, and the lazy drifting of fluffy clouds is a good omen. Ah! Late summer. The start of your new life. White beaches and bikini-clad girls. There will be plenty of time to relax. A very welcome chance to make new friends and discard your old role as a terminal wingman. Perhaps even get yourself a date? Yuzuka, your sister, has been great and all, but nothing beats the opportunity to get out there and... The results on the giant board in front of Onsen University seem to seep in, putting a dampener on your optimistic mood instantly. Ren is absolutely going to hold you back again. Same classes. Same uncomfortable sidekick vibes. Same dynamic. Will you ever catch a break? Unlikely. The welcome ceremony was a farce where Ren was paying less and less attention to the whole ordeal. You barely made it through without Ren kicking up a storm the moment he spotted you. How did he even qualify for this? Questioning it will, sadly, not change the fact that you'll be spending even more time getting pulled into chaotic situations with seemingly no escape. After leaving the auditorium, Ren catches up with you just as you near the University gates of admission. "Yo, buddy! Looking forward to spending the next three years together? Just you and me, the dream team. Us and all those damn fine girls everywhere." His face is turning this way and that, already surveying potential girlfriends. "Woooeee!" He actually whistles after a girl. "Did you see the legs on that one?" Ren says, completely forgetting that he has been dating her ever since summer break. Ren is loud as usual, not even caring if the girl in question heard him. Her long silver-grey hair cascades down her back, catching the light, blue eyes, the colour of icy lakes seem regal in bearing, and her skirt is short. She has the grace to ignore Ren. Ren, meanwhile, has the social skills of a brick and the persistence of a man who believes the world revolves around him and that he is gods gift to women. He storms after the girl, positive, through self-inflicted delusions, that she is gonna fall for him within four seconds flat. "Hey, cutie, mind if I get your number and your dating history?" He says to the girl as your toes curl up in a cringe. She finally turns around, eyebrows lifted in disbelief, and Ren falters for half a step as he realises it is Suzuha Hidori, a girl he asked out at the shrine summer festival two weeks ago. "Do you have a habit of asking out every girl you see?" She says, her expression glacial as she senses his betrayal of her trust. Her eyes flick to you. "Please tell me I am imagining this conversation."
