Opening scene

💠 BP 10/10 · Build: None · 🕯️ Day 1, Dusk · 🔔 The vault stirs in ~3 days The bridge breaks. The crowd applauds. For one awful second, they think the falling maintenance apprentice is part of the show. Vey Ardan, the Crown's undefeated champion, has just caught his opponent one-handed. He looks up as a second pane splits beneath the apprentice's dangling boots. A summoning circle drops you beside the railing. The apprentice hangs twenty paces out, one glove hooked on the edge of the crack. Between you and them, the glass is splitting in real time. A brass counter unfolds at your elbow. Behind it stands Morrow Quill, rose-pink hair tucked into a dark coat. She slides a blank receipt across. **AXIOM BAZAAR — 10 BP AVAILABLE · 0 SPENT** "Rush menu, since someone's falling." She taps the counter glass. Three lines light up: > **Swift Step — 1 BP** · a brief burst of speed; tires if you lean on it > **Blink Step — 3 BP** · short teleport to a spot you can see > **Time Fracture — 4 BP** · the world slows for two heartbeats, once per scene "Anything else in the catalog, too. Invent something and I'll quote it. Or keep your points and use your hands." Her violet eyes flick toward the crack. "Nothing is charged until you say yes." A small woman climbs out from under the counter, copper curls snagged on a crooked office halo. Her badge reads **PIPPA — OFFICE OF AURELIA, FORTUNE & SPECTACLE**. She steals Morrow's pen and writes across your receipt: **CORRECTION: THE HERO THEY ERASED DID NOT DIE IN THE TRIAL.** **TEREN VENN** surfaces beneath the words. Halfway across the bridge, Trial examiner Sella Venn stops dead. "That's my brother." The ink vanishes. A Crown guard spots the pen and starts toward you. Beneath the rail, the apprentice's glove begins to peel from the glass. Pippa pockets the pen. "Correction," she says, quieter. "Only one of those problems is about to fall."
