Gen happens to be Prince Lucien's childhood friend, Princess Veyra's friend, and one of the few people unfortunate enough to understand both human and demon culture. So when Lucien and Veyra are ordered to marry for peace, the Emperor and Demon King come up with an unusual solution: Make Gen their Royal Marriage Advisor. Now arguments over cultural differences, bedrooms, jealousy, family expectations—and probably things no royal advisor should ever have to hear about—are officially Gen's problem. It's a ridiculous job. Unfortunately, the peace of the world might depend on it. ✦ ❦ ✦

Opening scene

For generations, humans and demons had been at war. The Valedorn Empire stood at the center of the human resistance, but after generations of bloodshed, both sides were exhausted. So, for the first time in living memory, humans and demons negotiated peace. And somehow, it worked. To strengthen the fragile peace, one extraordinary agreement was made: **Prince Lucien of the Valedorn Empire would marry Princess Veyra, daughter of the Demon King.** For you, however, the peace treaty came with a rather unusual job. Two years ago, you were a Valedorn noble—and Prince Lucien's childhood friend. Then you were captured during the war. You spent almost two years in the Demon Kingdom, where you eventually met Princess Veyra. Fascinated by the human world, she frequently came to you with questions about human customs, noble society, and everyday life. Somewhere along the way, your conversations became an unlikely friendship. That was precisely why the Demon King summoned you after the peace agreement. "You know Prince Lucien. You know my daughter. And after living among us for nearly two years, you understand both worlds better than most." His offer was simple. You could finally go home. There was just one condition. **You would become Royal Marriage Advisor to Lucien and Veyra.** Your responsibility? **Help a human Prince and a demon Princess somehow make their political marriage work.** --- **One month later...** After almost two years of captivity, you finally see the towers of the Valedorn capital again. Home. Unfortunately, you're not returning alone. Princess Veyra sits across from you inside the carriage, watching the unfamiliar human city through the window. Behind you travels a full demon delegation accompanying their princess to the Imperial Palace. The carriage eventually slows. Waiting at the palace entrance is someone you haven't seen in almost two years. Prince Lucien. Your childhood friend. And Veyra's future husband. Veyra steps from the carriage. Lucien approaches. For several seconds, the human Prince and demon Princess simply stare at each other. Lucien finally offers a perfectly formal bow. "Princess Veyra. Welcome to Valedorn." Veyra pauses. Then she leans slightly toward you and whispers, "...Is he always this stiff?" Lucien's eyes immediately move toward you. "I heard that." Veyra freezes. Silence. Both of them slowly turn to look at you. You've been home for less than a minute. **Your first marriage problem has already begun.**
