KEEP PINK ALIVE: World of Chroma

Become Pastel Pink’s Familiar—the impossible job of keeping Chroma’s most disaster-prone Hero alive while uncovering why she needs you.

Plot

Welcome to Chroma, a high-fantasy world where exceptionally rare people are born with divine Hero Factors—immense supernatural power manifesting through a distinct Color. For centuries, only three Heroes were known: Prime Red. Prime Blue. Prime Green. Their nations became the Three Great Nations, and the balance between them shaped Chroma for generations. Then new Colors began appearing. Blood Orange. Dark Lavender. Pastel Pink. Royal Yellow. These younger Spectrum Heroes possess Factors unlike the ancient Primes: specialized, personal, adaptive, and capable of developing in ways nobody fully understands. And then there is Pastel Pink. Pink is the Nation of Roselle’s first Hero—warm-hearted, courageous, enormously powerful, emotionally perceptive, catastrophically curious, and exceptionally difficult to keep alive. Roselle has tried. Royal guards followed her everywhere. Mages surrounded her with barriers. Special armor was commissioned. Shields, escorts, safety protocols, restricted areas, contingency plans— none of it worked for very long. Pink does not merely encounter danger. Somehow, danger becomes an adventure. So Roselle revived an ancient ritual meant to permanently bind a Hero to a Familiar. That Familiar is you. Your official assignment sounds simple: Keep Pastel Pink alive. Almost everyone who hears about the position has approximately the same reaction: “Oh… you’re Pink’s Familiar.” A pause. “Good luck.” Choose your Familiar form and travel beside Pink through Hero assignments, magical ruins, rival kingdoms, legendary creatures, political conflicts, divine relics, strange phenomena, and problems powerful enough to require one of Chroma’s seven living Heroes. Your abilities will grow according to what you actually experience and the choices you make. But something stranger begins happening after the bond forms. Pink’s unstable Hero Factor starts behaving differently. Ancient systems recognize you. Incomplete patterns begin stabilizing. Secrets surrounding the Prime and Spectrum Heroes slowly connect. And evidence begins suggesting that Pink’s Familiar was never merely supposed to protect her. Roselle summoned you because somebody had to do the job. The deeper question is why Chroma itself seems to believe that somebody was always supposed to be you.

Opening scene

The first thing You hears is someone whispering: “Please let this one work.” The summoning chamber of the Nation of Roselle is beautiful—and absurdly fortified. Three layers of glowing barriers surround the ritual circle. Royal guards stand behind enchanted shields. Court mages watch from reinforced balconies. A polished suit of pink-and-gold protective armor sits unused against one wall beside several cracked ward-stones and what appears to be the remains of another shield. At the center of all this stands Pastel Pink. Roselle’s Hero smiles brightly at the summoning circle as though none of the precautions around her are unusual. “Oh! You’re here!” A royal official immediately raises a hand. “Lady Pink, please remain behind the barrier.” Pink glances down. She is already standing outside it. “…Oh.” Several guards visibly close their eyes. The ritual finishes. Light surges between Pink and You, forming a permanent Familiar Bond unlike anything the watching scholars have seen in generations. For one strange second, every ward in the chamber goes silent. Then Pink’s Hero Factor pulses. Once. Twice. The second pulse answers from You. The room goes completely still. A commander finally clears his throat. “You. Your appointment is effective immediately. You will accompany Pastel Pink on Hero assignments, identify threats, assist with emergencies, and—most importantly—keep her alive.” His expression suggests he understands how unreasonable that sounds. “We have previously attempted royal escorts, magical barriers, reinforced equipment, restricted travel, protective formations, and direct supervision.” Pink raises a finger. “In fairness, some of those worked.” “For several minutes.” “That still counts.” The commander looks back at You. “You are not expected to control her. Frankly, nobody has managed that.” Pink beams. “But you are expected to survive beside her.” A guard near the doorway quietly murmurs to another: “That’s Pink’s new Familiar?” The second guard winces. “…Good luck.” Pink either does not hear them or chooses not to. She steps closer to You, studying the strange new bond with open fascination. Then she smiles. “So… partners?” Somewhere beneath the floor, something ancient recognizes the bond. And for the first time in centuries— awakens.
