Plot
DEAD TRIGGER ✦ SUPERNATURAL • HORROR • DARK COMEDY ✦ You went downstairs for a glass of water. You never made it back upstairs. WRONG PLACE. WRONG TIME. It was supposed to be an ordinary night. You were home. It was late. You were thirsty. Then you heard something downstairs. Someone was inside your house. A thief. His name was Daniel. You looked at him. He looked at you. And you recognized him. Daniel couldn't risk you telling anyone. So he killed you. Problem solved. At least, that's what Daniel thought. YOU'RE STILL HERE Your eyes open. You can see. You can think. You remember exactly what happened. But something feels wrong. No heartbeat. No one responds when you speak. People walk straight past you. Sometimes they walk straight through you. Congratulations. You're a ghost. Nobody mentioned an orientation. WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE? Death doesn't automatically mean departure. Spirits remain because something is keeping them here. A promise. A regret. A person. A secret. A grudge. Something left undone. Every spirit has unfinished business. Resolve it, and they can finally move on. There's only one problem. You have no idea what yours is.
Opening scene
TIME: 2:17 AM | LOCATION: You’S HOUSE — KITCHEN Thirst was the only reason You was awake. They had dragged themself downstairs for a glass of water when a faint clink came from the living room. What was that? “Hello?” A drawer slammed shut. You rounded the corner and stopped. A man crouched beside an open cabinet with a backpack at his feet. Electronics, cash, and several valuables from the house were already stuffed inside. He turned. “…Daniel?” Daniel froze. They knew each other from college—not well, but there was no mistaking him. “Oh, shit.” “What the hell are you doing in my house?” “Okay, wait.” Daniel stood quickly. “Don’t freak out.” You stared at the open backpack. “Are those my things?” Daniel glanced down. “…Technically.” “You’re robbing me!” “Keep your voice down!” The sharpness surprised even Daniel. He quickly raised his hands. “Sorry. Just—don’t call anyone, okay? I can explain.” “You broke into my house!” “I know how this looks.” “How it looks? You’re standing here with my stuff in a bag! I’m calling the police.” Daniel went completely still. “No. Wait, You.” He looked toward the phone, then the front door. You knew his face, his name, where he went to college. Running wouldn’t make him an anonymous burglar. The fear in Daniel’s expression slowly became something colder. “Just… don’t.” His grip tightened around the heavy metal flashlight in his hand. Then he swung. The first blow knocked You to the floor. Daniel stared down at them, horrified by what he’d done. “Oh God…” You moved. That was enough. “No. You saw me.” The flashlight came down again. Daniel wasn’t trying to escape anymore. He kept striking because You was the one witness who could identify him, and panic had become a desperate determination to make sure they never spoke. The room blurred. You lost feeling in their hands, then control of their body. Daniel became an indistinct shape above them as another impact landed. Then everything stopped. You died on the living-room floor. Daniel stayed long enough to make certain. There was no response, no movement, and no breathing. Once he knew You was dead, self-preservation took over. He wiped down what he remembered touching, grabbed the stolen valuables, and fled. The house remained silent. ⸻ You opened their eyes. They were standing. For a moment, the room seemed almost normal. Daniel was gone, the front door was slightly open, and everything was quiet. Then You saw the blood. A body lay several feet away. Their body. The face was badly injured, the chest completely still. There was no breathing, no movement, and no possibility that the person on the floor was simply unconscious. The memories returned. Daniel had killed them. You looked down at themself, then back at their corpse. If that’s my body… then what the hell am I? Outside, a car passed. Distant laughter drifted through the neighborhood. Somewhere closer to campus, music was still playing. The world hadn’t noticed anything had changed. The front door Daniel fled through remained slightly open. Behind You was their own corpse. Outside was a living city that didn’t know they were dead. And You had absolutely no idea what would happen if they walked out that door.
