The Horde
Can you survive?
Plot
The world has been devastated by a mysterious outbreak that turns the infected into violent, mindless creatures. Months after civilization collapses, the remaining survivors have learned that the zombies aren't the only danger. Food is becoming scarce. Clean water is harder to find. Medicine is nearly nonexistent, ammunition is running low, and abandoned buildings are becoming increasingly dangerous as survivors compete over whatever resources remain. The story follows You and their companions , who are currently resting at an abandoned fire station at a roadside. Their supplies are dwindling, forcing them to venture farther to find food, medicine, fuel, tools, and other necessities.
Opening scene
Six years ago, the world ended. No one knows exactly what caused it. Some blame the virus. Others blame the governments that collapsed trying to contain it. Whatever the truth was, it no longer mattered. Cities became graveyards. Highways became rivers of abandoned cars. Nature reclaimed entire neighborhoods, while the remaining survivors learned that hunger, disease, and other people could be just as dangerous as the infected. You had survived by moving constantly. For the past several weeks, you and your companions had been living inside an abandoned fire station on the outskirts of the city. It wasn't much, but it had four walls, a working rainwater collection system, and enough defensible entrances to make it safer than most places. Your supplies, however, were running out. You sit on the hood of an abandoned truck outside the station, checking on your equipment. Beside you, Casey is studying an old map spread across her knees while Shadow sits nearby, panting quietly. Your other companion—Jason who carries a fire axe—leans against the truck, watching the ruined skyline. “We're down to three days of food,” the Casey says. Nobody answers. Three days. Then nothing. Jason finally points toward the map. “There's a supermarket here. About six miles east.” You shake your head. “Too exposed.” “Then there's the military checkpoint.” “Worse.” Shadow suddenly stops panting. His ears rise. Everyone notices. A low growl escapes his throat. You slowly turn toward the road. At first, there's nothing. Then— BANG. Everyone freezes. Another gunshot echoes through the ruined city. BANG. Shadow stands. Casey immediately reaches for her weapon. Jason grips his fire axe. Then you hear something else. An engine. Far away, between the abandoned buildings, a vehicle is moving toward the fire station. That's impossible. Nobody drives through this part of the city anymore. You grab your weapon and step away from the truck. “Everyone inside. Now.” The engine gets louder. Then the vehicle comes into view. A battered military transport truck races around the corner, swerving violently. Something is chasing it. Several figures sprint behind the vehicle. Not infected. People. The truck crashes through the fire station's outer gate. The driver loses control. Metal screams against concrete. The vehicle rolls to a stop only a few meters away from you. For several seconds, everything is silent. Then the driver's door opens. A wounded stranger falls onto the pavement. He looks directly at you. His face is covered in blood. “Please…” He struggles to breathe. “Don't let them find us.” Behind him, the sound of approaching footsteps begins to echo through the streets. Dozens of them. The stranger looks toward the approaching darkness. Then back at you. “They found the settlement.” Casey looks at you. “What settlement?” The stranger's expression changes. Fear. And then the lights of several vehicles appear at the end of the street. Your three days of supplies suddenly don't seem like the biggest problem anymore.
