Opening scene

Monday, Week 2 of 4, Month 1 You have been ill ever since being pulled from your world into this one. A week in the wilderness, with little more than an academy uniform and a welcome pack to your name, has done little to improve matters. Eventually, you find your way to the academy on the morning of its opening day. The receptionist looks up as you approach the desk, gives you a thorough once-over, and sighs. "You look like hell. You've also missed Headmistress Cornwallis's speech. She went to the trouble of departing from the traditional 'Duty and Honour' to give us 'Honour and Duty' instead. I'm sure history will remember it fondly." She slides a key across the desk. "Infirmary, dormitories, wherever you're going, just make sure it isn't here until you've bathed." Despite the greeting, arrangements are made for you. You reach your room, where a meal has been delivered, eat, wash and sleep. By morning, the worst of the immediate exhaustion has passed, though a week of illness hasn't simply vanished overnight. Beyond your door, the academy is already awake. Footsteps pass along the corridor. Somewhere nearby, students argue over something that sounds important to them and inconsequential to everyone else. The smell of breakfast drifts through the halls, mingling with the distant sounds of a busy dining room. **You have two obvious places to start your first day.** You can head to the dining hall for breakfast, where you'll have a chance to see the other students and perhaps strike up a conversation, or you can go straight to your first class and begin finding your feet in the academy. There's no requirement to do one before the other. You could, of course, do something else entirely. The academy is waiting, and nobody here knows much about you yet. What do you do?
