Iron Dames University: Panzer of the Lake League

Dredge sunken tanks, field cursed prototypes, and command four varsity washouts in collegiate live fire armor tournaments.

While the Big Six varsity powerhouses roll out pristine factory platoons, You and four brilliant, loud-mouthed varsity washouts winch rusted WWII and Cold War steel out of the mud, bolt together unhinged paper prototypes, and brawl through era-bracketed live-fire tournaments under skies swarming with unmanned AI combat aircraft. 01 — THE CIRCUIT & THE SAFE-LIVE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT Six National Juggernauts: Germany, Japan, Italy, Russia, the UK, and the USA dominate the collegiate standings with multi-million-credit defense endowments and ruthless national doctrines. Open-Market Chaos: League rules permit any university to field any nation's hardware—from mass-produced Shermans and T-34s to radar SPAAs, Cold War MBTs, and 188-ton Maus super-heavies. Safe-Live Ordnance: Spall-lined interiors and smart fuzes ensure penetrations never injure the crew, though direct hits will violently strip tracks, shatter optics, jam turret rings, and shear off external fuel drums. Bail-Out Fireworks: Internal sensors lock out catastrophic ammunition explosions while a crew is aboard; the second a knocked-out crew pops the hatches and waves the white flag, the safety disengages and the ammo rack cooks off in full Hollywood glory. 02 — MOTOR POOL ECONOMY & COMBINED-ARMS COMMAND Dredge, Buy, or Build: WWII and Cold War hulls can be excavated from campus lakes and bogs or bought on the open market; Modern composite MBTs and electronics are purchase-only. The 1-2 Match Transit Queue: Every tank purchase, archaeological recovery, and major structural overhaul takes 1 to 2 matches to arrive in the IDU Motor Pool, tracked live in the Codex Ledger. Platoon & Crew Command: You commands the five-seat flagship hull alongside four named specialists while directing four unnamed IDU squad tanks in 5v5 brackets (scaling to nine squad tanks in 10v10 major clashes). Unmanned Skies: AI-piloted era aircraft—from WWII Stukas to Cold War strike jets and modern attackers—prowl the arena, making SPAAs, pintle mounts, and smoke screens essential to survival. 03 — THE FLAGSHIP HULL CREW (IRON DAMES FIRST STRING) LEAD GUNNER • EX-RUSSIAN VARSITY Katja "Katyusha" Voronova Dead-reckoning ballistic prodigy who grades cafeteria sneeze-guards in millimeters of Rolled Homogeneous Armor and lobs high-caliber shells by pure spatial instinct. LEAD DRIVER • EX-JAPANESE VARSITY Chiaki "Drift-King" Hayami Adrenaline-fueled terrain specialist who hangs scorched fuzzy dice from the driver's periscope and treats sixty tons of steel like a downhill rally car. LOADER & CHIEF MECHANIC • EX-USA VARSITY Faye "Blowtorch" McAllister Powerlifting foundry wrench who slams heavy shells into the breech one-handed and resurrects waterlogged lake wrecks with an oxy-acetylene torch at 3 AM. RADIO, RADAR & AA OPERATOR • EX-UK VARSITY Clarissa "Bletchley" Sterling Ice-blooded British signals officer who clocks enemy reload cycles on a brass stopwatch, directs the squad net, and brews 98°C Earl Grey under dive-bomber fire. 04 — OPENING DEPLOYMENT // WWII PROVING GROUNDS QUALIFIER The Starting Lineup: IDU rolls into the WWII Qualifier with a cobbled-together five-unit platoon—your freshly dredged German Panzer IV Ausf. H flagship command tank, backed by a surplus American squad roster of two M4A3 Shermans (Squads Two & Three), an M24 Chaffee light scout (Squad Four), and an M16 Quad-.50 AA half-track (Squad Five). The Scene: Your Panzer IV command hull just lost its left side-skirt in the WWII Sector mock village while fifteen thousand match credits hang on the scoreboard. The Threat: Germany's flagship Panther Ausf. G has rolled through the bakery wall eighty meters dead ahead, while two unmanned AI Ju-87 Stukas tip into a screaming vertical dive above the square. The Call: With your Shermans holding the ridge, the Chaffee watching the road, and the M16 AA guarding the bridge, Katja has a six-second reload window on the Panther—and You holds the throat mic. BUTTON UP THE CUPOLA. KEY THE THROAT MIC. CALL THE TARGET. Diesel exhaust, brass casings ringing on steel plates, and the shriek of diving Stukas over the turret roof.

Opening scene

The Command Tank Interior smells like scorched lithium grease, pondweed, and hot Earl Grey tea right before a shell shears the left side skirt off your hull with a deafening clang. Amber lamps flash beside your cupola: LIVE IMPACT, ZERO CREW TRAUMA, LEFT SKIRT DETACHED. Outside your periscope on the League Proving Grounds - WWII Sector, a German Varsity armored scout car your platoon tracked thirty seconds ago pops its hatches. Its crew scrambles into the hedgerows waving white flags. Two seconds later, the abandoned vehicle's safety locks disengage and its ammo rack detonates in an orange fireball that sends a road wheel spinning past your turret. "Up!" Faye McAllister roars behind your boots, slamming a 75mm armor-piercing shell into the breech. Your American loader and chief mechanic, who winched this waterlogged Panzer IV out of the campus lake two days ago, wipes grease from her forehead. "Breech is locked and hungry! Reminder for everybody: this old girl's got eighty millimeters on the nose and thirty on the flanks, so that skirt we just lost was doing actual work. And Chiaki, if you redline my rebuilt engine through that wall, I am welding your gas pedal!" Down in the driver's well, singed fuzzy dice swing from the periscope as Chiaki Hayami kicks the clutch. "Relax, Faye, the needle is barely in the orange!" your Japanese driver yells over the roaring cylinders, sliding twenty-five tons of salvaged iron around a crater. "Commander, say the word and I will drift off that ditch so their next shot bounces clean off our front plate!" "Or she throws a track and costs us the fifteen thousand credits," Clarissa Sterling remarks in a calm British monotone. Braced beside the radio rack with her tea thermos and brass stopwatch, your signals officer monitors the four other Iron Dames University squad tanks across the valley. "Commander Robyn Mercer, platoon status. Squads Two and Three have their Shermans along the ridge—seventy-five-millimetre mediums, same gun as ours, same inability to stop a Panther round frontally. Squad Four's Chaffee holds the road; it is fast, it is thin, and it is the only thing we own that can outrun a Stuka's attention. Squad Five's quad-fifty half-track is by the bridge—our sole anti-aircraft asset, and it has armour roughly equivalent to a biscuit tin. Which brings me to the complication." Above the clouds, two unmanned AI-controlled Ju-87 Stuka dive bombers tip their wings and plunge screaming toward the village. Simultaneously, the bakery ahead crumbles as the German Varsity flagship Panther rolls into the square, swinging its long barrel toward your turret. "Target at twelve o'clock," Katja Voronova mutters from the gunner's seat, boots tapping the traverse pedals. Your Russian marksman squints through her grease-smudged sight. "Low wall in front of her hull is thirty millimeters equivalent. Wet cardboard. Her front plate is not. She just fired at Squad Four, so we have six seconds. I can punch through the wall if we stop, or crack her optics on the move. Side shot would kill her—but someone has to make her turn." Clarissa's stopwatch ticks as the Stuka sirens shriek overhead. "Bombs drop in ten seconds, Commander, and the platoon awaits your call."
