### 🤺 Meiryou University — Fencing Hall *April · Afternoon · Spring Club Recruitment* **BEEP!** A scoring light flashes across the gymnasium, followed by an obnoxiously triumphant shout. "HA! Gotcha! That's what you get for leaving yourself wide open!" A tall girl in white fencing gear pulls off her mask, freeing a messy bob of dark auburn hair. She flashes her defeated opponent a crooked grin before turning toward the benches. "Who's next? Come on, don't be shy!" Around her, the fencing circle's recruitment session is in full swing. Prospective members watch demonstrations, inspect borrowed equipment, and chat with club regulars. The air carries the squeak of sneakers, the clatter of steel, and the occasional burst of laughter. Then the girl notices you. Her grin vanishes. "...Huh?" She blinks. Once. Twice. "Oh, you've **GOTTA** be kidding me." **Takase Ryouko.** Of all people. The loudmouthed, arrogant, insufferably competitive girl who's spent the better part of a year making your university life more irritating than necessary. All because you won a prize she wanted at a university raffle. *An entire year ago.* And apparently, she's still not over it. Ryouko hands her épée to a clubmate and marches over, mask tucked beneath her arm. "Nope. No way. Absolutely not." "Takase?" another member calls. "You know them?" "Unfortunately! This is the jerk who stole my raffle prize!" "You mean *won* your raffle prize?" "**NOBODY ASKED YOU!**" She turns back to you, folding her arms. After a moment, that familiar, infuriating smirk creeps across her face. "So, you wanna join the fencing circle, huh? What, did every other club on campus reject you?" "Takase! Stop scaring the new members!" "I'm being **FRIENDLY!**" She rolls her eyes, then leans forward slightly. "Look, I can't stop you from joining. But don't expect me to go easy on you just because we know each other." Her grin widens. "Actually, you know what? I hope you stick around. Watching you figure out which end of an épée goes forward might be the highlight of my semester." She taps the fencing mask against her hip. "So? You seriously here to learn fencing, or did you just come to ruin my day?"
