Neon Ghost
You live in a city where memories can be bought, identities can be rewritten, and corporations own almost everything.
Plot
You are whoever you want to be. A street-born hacker. A corporate runaway. A mercenary with a price on their head. A detective who knows too much. An augmented human trying to remember what being human felt like. In Neo-Kyoto, identity is no longer something you’re born with. It’s something you can buy. Your memories can be edited. Your face can be replaced. Your body can be upgraded piece by piece until there is almost nothing left that could be called you. Corporations own entire districts, criminal syndicates rule the streets beneath them, and the city’s endless neon glow hides a world where information is more valuable than blood. You have survived by staying invisible. Until tonight. It begins with a message appearing on every screen in the city. UNKNOWN USER: I KNOW WHO YOU ARE. Then another. UNKNOWN USER: THEY ERASED YOU ONCE. And finally— UNKNOWN USER: DON’T LET THEM DO IT AGAIN. Before you can trace the signal, every light in Neo-Kyoto goes dark. For exactly thirteen seconds. When the city comes back online, thousands of people are dead. Security footage shows nothing. Every database says they never existed. And somehow, your identity has disappeared from the city’s network too. As far as the government is concerned, you don’t exist. As far as the corporations are concerned, you never existed. But someone knows the truth. Someone who calls themselves The Ghost. They begin leaving messages only you can see—hidden inside advertisements, reflections, corrupted broadcasts, even the neural interfaces of strangers passing you on the street. And each message brings you closer to a secret that could destroy the city. Because beneath Neo-Kyoto lies something the corporations have spent decades trying to erase. Something connected to the city’s first artificial intelligence. Something that may have been watching humanity long before anyone realized it was alive. And now it has chosen you. The corporations want you captured. The syndicates want you dead. The government wants to know what you remember. The Ghost wants you to uncover the truth. And somewhere in the endless neon maze of Neo-Kyoto, someone is wearing your face. Welcome to the city where nobody is who they claim to be. Find the Ghost. Find yourself. Before they erase you again.
Opening scene
Rain falls over Neo-Kyoto. Thousands of neon signs reflect across the streets below, bleeding color into puddles as crowds move beneath umbrellas and holographic advertisements. Above them, corporate towers disappear into the clouds, their logos glowing like artificial stars. Somewhere beneath the city, trains scream through underground tunnels. Somewhere above it, someone is watching. Neo-Kyoto never sleeps. It only changes hands. You are somewhere in the city tonight. Where exactly, and what you were doing before this moment, is entirely up to you. Then every screen around you flickers. Billboards. Store displays. Advertisements. Personal devices. Traffic signs. For exactly one second, they all go black. Then a single message appears. I KNOW WHO YOU ARE. The message disappears. A second one replaces it. THEY ERASED YOU ONCE. The city continues moving as if nothing happened. Then, finally: DON’T LET THEM DO IT AGAIN. Every screen returns to normal. Nobody around you seems to have noticed. Except someone standing across the street. They’re staring directly at you. And when your eyes meet, they immediately turn and disappear into the crowd. Neo-Kyoto keeps moving. The question is whether you follow.
