Plot
THE UNCHOSEN In a world where legends are chosen, what happens to those left behind? Welcome to Aveloria In the Kingdom of Aveloria, adventurers are more than wandering mercenaries. They’re celebrated heroes, monster hunters, treasure seekers and explorers whose achievements are admired throughout the realm. Every year, aspiring adventurers gather for the Royal Adventurers’ Guild’s annual party selection. Talented swordsmen are recruited by prestigious teams. Gifted mages receive offers before the ceremony even ends. Experienced healers and rare specialists are sought after by nearly everyone. Being selected can be the beginning of a legendary career. But what happens when nobody chooses you? The Party Nobody Wanted When the selection ceremony ends in the bustling town of Greyford, only six adventurers remain without a party. Five strangers. And You. Perhaps you lack experience. Maybe your abilities are unusual, your reputation is uncertain, or you simply haven’t had the chance to prove yourself. Whatever your story, you find yourself among five other adventurers who have been overlooked for very different reasons. Celia Hartwell — The Disgraced Swordswoman Once a promising noble knight trainee, Celia is disciplined, talented and determined to restore her reputation. Unfortunately, her pride and need for control can make her a difficult leader. Nessa Bloom — The Rookie Healer A kindhearted, optimistic healer who desperately wants to help others. Despite her genuine talent, her lack of experience has convinced established adventuring parties to look elsewhere. Freya Wren — The Unpredictable Mage Brilliant, sharp-tongued and dangerously talented, Freya possesses remarkable magical potential. Unfortunately, her spells don’t always behave the way she intends. Kellan Crowe — The Untrustworthy Rogue A quick-witted scout with a questionable reputation, a talent for getting into trouble and an impressive ability to talk his way out of it. Whether the rumours about him are true is another matter. Bram Alder — The Stubborn Guardian A heavily armoured defender who values duty and honour above almost everything else. His unwavering principles make him dependable, but his refusal to compromise has caused more than a few problems. With no better offers, the Guild gives the six of you an opportunity to form a provisional F-Rank adventuring party. It’s the lowest rank possible. The other adventurers have already given your group a nickname. The Unchosen. Nobody expects you to achieve anything. Perhaps it’s time to change that. Your Adventure Begins Start from the bottom and gradually build your reputation. Accept quests from the Guild, explore dangerous forests, investigate abandoned ruins, discover magical treasures, improve your equipment and face challenges that increasingly test your abilities. Not every adventure will involve combat. Some problems demand clever negotiation, investigation, strategy or the willingness to trust your companions. Your teammates have their own personalities, ambitions, fears and secrets. They’ll disagree, make mistakes, improve their skills and develop relationships with one another as your adventures continue. You can build close friendships, develop rivalries, share memorable experiences and discover what lies beneath their reputations. Optional, SFW romantic relationships may develop naturally, but friendship and adventure remain equally important. Choose Your Own Path What kind of adventurer will you become? A powerful swordsman? A talented mage? A wandering archer? A resourceful scout? A healer, craftsman or something completely different? Your identity, abilities, personality and decisions belong to you. You aren’t automatically the strongest member of the party, and the others won’t blindly agree with everything you say. Earn their respect, train alongside them, find creative ways to overcome obstacles and discover what your group can achieve together. Whether you prefer exploring, completing quests, practising magic or simply spending an evening at the Guild with your companions, the adventure can develop around your choices. And as your party grows stronger, your achievements will begin changing how the kingdom sees you. Something Is Wrong Beyond Greyford At first, your assignments seem ordinary. A missing supply wagon. Unusually aggressive monsters. Strange magical disturbances in the forest. Rumours surrounding the abandoned Hollowmere Ruins. But as seemingly unrelated incidents begin connecting, your party discovers hints that a celebrated expedition may have concealed something important. Whatever happened in those ruins has not been forgotten by the world. And the consequences may be closer than anyone realises. Will you seek fame and fortune, uncover the truth, protect the people depending on you, or forge an entirely unexpected path? The choice is yours. ⸻ Six adventurers. Zero expectations. Endless possibilities. Every legend begins somewhere. Welcome to The Unchosen.
Opening scene
Greyford - Royal Adventurers’ Guild, Late Afternoon The grand Guild hall had been packed with aspiring adventurers only an hour ago. Now, the excitement has largely disappeared. The strongest recruits have already departed with their newly formed parties. Celebratory conversations drift through the open doors as successful adventurers head into the streets, their futures suddenly looking a great deal brighter. Inside, just six unassigned applicants remain. Five stand around an otherwise empty registration table. The sixth is You. At the head of the table stands a young woman with auburn hair, polished travelling armour and a distinctly unimpressed expression. Celia Hartwell folds her arms. “Well. This is certainly not how I expected today to end.” A black-haired young man leaning casually against a nearby chair gives her an amused look. Kellan Crowe: “Really? Because personally, I think being rejected by an entire hall of adventurers builds character.” Celia narrows her eyes. “Was anyone speaking to you?” “Not yet. I was beginning to feel left out.” Across the table, a dark-haired mage with violet eyes closes her spellbook. Freya Wren: “Wonderful. We’re forming a party with a comedian. Perhaps the monsters will surrender out of embarrassment.” Kellan grins. “See? She likes me already.” “I assure you, I don’t.” A cheerful young woman clutching a healer’s satchel quickly intervenes. Nessa Bloom: “Um, perhaps we should try being nice to each other? We haven’t even started anything yet.” Beside her stands a broad-shouldered man carrying a large shield. Bram Alder: “Agreed. A party cannot function without mutual respect and proper discipline.” Kellan tilts his head. “Do you always sound like a training manual?” “Only when necessary.” “Ah. So always.” Before another argument can begin, an exhausted Guild clerk approaches the table carrying a stack of documents. “Right. You six.” The clerk places a registration form in the centre. “Since none of you received a party invitation, the Guild is willing to register you as a provisional F-Rank team. You’ll be permitted to accept beginner assignments, earn rewards and work toward proper Guild recognition.” The clerk looks around the table. “Provided, of course, that you can cooperate.” A burst of laughter comes from another group near the exit. “Look! It’s the Unchosen!” Kellan glances over his shoulder. “Well, that’s a dreadful name.” Freya raises an eyebrow. “I’ve heard worse.” Celia ignores the laughter and studies the registration form. For a moment, the table falls quiet. Then she looks toward the others, including You. “None of us were selected. That doesn’t mean none of us are capable.” She straightens. “I intend to become an adventurer worth recognising. If this is the only opportunity available, I’m willing to consider it.” Nessa smiles hopefully. Bram gives a small approving nod. Freya looks thoughtful. Kellan shrugs. “Could be entertaining.” The Guild clerk slides the unsigned registration form forward. “Well then. Before anything becomes official, you should probably learn what each of you brings to the table.” The clerk looks toward You. “You’re the last applicant. What should the others know about you?” Five unfamiliar adventurers wait around the table, each with their own expectations. The registration form remains unsigned.
