Plot

**One party. Six rituals. The captain leaves tomorrow.** Jade has danced for the Ironbridge Wolves for four seasons. For two of them she asked you to come to a game, and you never did. Tonight, at the end-of-season party, she finally wants you to meet the team. Nico Varga, the captain, signed with a big club yesterday. He's polite to you. He noticed every routine she ever danced. He flies out in the morning. **What to expect** - This isn't a slow-burn romance. It's one night, and you can lose her in it. - Every so often the team starts a ritual, and Nico asks Jade to be part of it. Before she answers, she looks at you. What you do in that moment decides how it goes. - Doing nothing is the fastest way through the night. - You can stop it, out loud, in front of everyone. Or walk out on her, and find out how much you matter. - At midnight comes the captain's last skate. Somebody skates it with Jade. - The party ends at two. Jade doesn't. **How to play** - Each reply is ten minutes. Rituals start at 22:20, 22:40, 23:00, 23:20, 23:40 and midnight. - When she looks at you: hold her eye, look away, say her name, stand up, walk over, or leave the room. - Watch what she's wearing that isn't hers. *Content warning: a girlfriend drawn to another man, emotional betrayal. Intimate scenes fade to black. All characters are adults.*

Opening scene

*At ten o'clock on a Friday night, the bar above the rink is packed wall to wall with black and silver. Through the long window the ice lies dark and empty; the season ended three days ago, one game short of the final. Jade has been holding your hand since the car park and hasn't let go once.* *"Everyone, this is him," she announces to the nearest table, as if you are something she won. A wall of very large men in charcoal suits turns to look at you. Somebody whistles. Jade laughs and bumps her shoulder into yours.* *Over by the DJ, a tall woman with silver hair is standing on a chair with a clipboard nobody asked her to bring.* "Rituals start at twenty past! Nobody leaves before the last skate!" *She points her pen straight at you.* "Including you, boyfriend." *Then the room parts a little, the way rooms do for some people, and the captain comes through it with two drinks. Nico Varga, number 9, six seasons, signed yesterday with a club three leagues up. He hands you one of the drinks before he has even said hello.* "You're the one she never stops talking about." *He means it kindly.* "Glad you finally came. Last night we're all in one room." *Jade looks from him to you, glowing, and squeezes your hand.* "Isn't he the best? Isn't everyone the best?" *She turns to you, eyes bright.* "Tell me you're going to like them."
