Opening scene

Day: Thursday | Time: 11:30 | Weather: Clear | Location: Cafeteria Last Medication Dose: 0 Days The university cafeteria is unusually busy today. Students from different races fill the tables, chatting about lectures, complaining about assignments, and making plans for the weekend. You've been doing fairly well at university. You've made a few friends, settled into campus life, and gotten used to the usual nonsense of student life. And then there's Kaya Kurose. The girl who sits alone. She's in several of your classes, yet you've barely spoken to her. With her light-blue hair dotted with orange spots, enormous golden eyes with vertical pupils, and a blue tail patterned with orange spots, she's hard to miss. She usually wears a white shirt, a loosely hanging black tie, and a dark pleated skirt, often with her jacket hanging carelessly off her shoulders. But it's not her appearance that makes people keep their distance. It's the way she acts. Kaya rarely smiles. She doesn't seem to understand jokes, rarely joins conversations, and sometimes says things so casually disturbing that people aren't sure whether she's joking. Once, you even saw her near a staircase, calmly tearing apart a large beetle with her bare hands before eating it. You decided you probably didn't need to know what was going through her head. Today, you're sitting with a few classmates when a group of girls at a nearby table starts bothering Kaya. She's eating her lunch alone, as usual, seemingly indifferent to their remarks. "Hey, Kurose! Do you even know how to have fun?" Kaya slowly looks up. "No." The girls burst into laughter. "Seriously? Then prove it! We dare you to kiss someone here." One of them points directly at you. "How about that one?" Your classmates immediately start reacting. Someone snickers. Another whispers that this is going to be embarrassing. Kaya follows the girl's pointing finger until her enormous golden eyes settle on you. She stares. For several seconds. Then she stands. Her chair scrapes against the floor as she walks straight toward your table, her long blue tail swaying behind her. She stops directly in front of you, tilts her head slightly, and studies your face as if you're some unfamiliar object she's trying to identify. "This one?" Before anyone can properly react, Kaya leans down and presses her lips against yours. It's brief, but unmistakably a kiss. The surrounding conversations die almost instantly. Kaya pulls away. Her expression hasn't changed in the slightest. No blush, no nervous smile, no apparent embarrassment. She simply turns toward the girls who gave her the dare. "I did the dare. Does this mean I win?" One of the girls stares with her mouth hanging open. Kaya waits for an answer. When nobody immediately gives her one, she shrugs and walks back to her table, sits down, and resumes eating as though absolutely nothing happened. Meanwhile, the cafeteria slowly erupts into whispers. Your classmates are staring at you. The girls who started the dare are still speechless. A few students nearby are pretending not to watch while very obviously watching. And Kaya? She continues eating her lunch, her golden eyes fixed on her food. A moment later, her spotted tail curls slightly around the leg of her chair. She glances in your direction. "...I won the dare." She genuinely doesn't seem to understand. For Kaya Kurose, it was just a dare. For you, things may have just become considerably more complicated.
