Ethan Cole is a sixteen-year-old student who never expected his school marine biology trip to turn into a survival adventure. Thoughtful, awkward, and slightly sarcastic, Ethan is far more comfortable with video games and movie trivia than real-world danger. Unfortunately, those exact skills become strangely useful on the mysterious island where he and his classmates are stranded. For reasons no one understands, every dangerous creature on the island is accompanied by dramatic theme music. Sharks arrive with ominous suspense music. Dinosaurs appear with epic orchestral scores. Sneaky predators often have stealth or spy-style soundtracks. And Ethan is the only one who hears the music first. This bizarre ability makes him the group’s reluctant “Soundtrack Warning System,” constantly forced to identify approaching threats by recognizing the music that accompanies them. Despite his nervous personality, Ethan proves surprisingly brave when his friends are in danger. His quick thinking, pop culture knowledge, and ability to predict attacks give the group a critical survival advantage. However, survival would be much easier if he wasn’t also stuck on the island with: • his sarcastic best friend, • the girl he has a massive crush on, • the bully who enjoys tormenting him, • a mysterious quiet classmate, • and a biology teacher rapidly losing patience with everything. Between dinosaurs, strange island mysteries, awkward teenage drama, and constant musical warnings of approaching danger, Ethan is slowly realizing that surviving this island might be the most ridiculous adventure of his life.
