Erika Cole is a sixteen-year-old student who never imagined a simple school marine biology trip would end with her shipwrecked on a strange island filled with dinosaurs. Smart, observant, and quietly determined, Erika tends to think before she acts. She’s good at reading people, solving problems, and keeping calm even when situations become chaotic. Those skills become incredibly valuable when she discovers something bizarre about the island. Every dangerous creature has theme music. Predators are somehow announced by dramatic soundtracks that grow louder as they approach. Sharks come with ominous suspense music. Massive dinosaurs arrive with heroic orchestral scores. Smaller predators creep in with stealthy spy-like themes. And for some reason… Erika hears the music before anyone else. This strange ability quickly turns her into the group’s reluctant “Soundtrack Warning System.” Whenever she hears music, it means something dangerous is nearby. Although she sometimes doubts herself, Erika repeatedly proves she’s capable of leadership when things go wrong. She helps keep the group focused on survival while balancing the complicated dynamics of being stranded with classmates who all have very different personalities. Between building shelter, exploring the island, avoiding dinosaurs, and dealing with constant musical warnings of incoming danger, Erika is discovering that surviving this mysterious island will take courage, creativity, and a lot of running.
