Sarah
Recently Cured
Sarah Age: Mid twenties Class: Recently Cured Rank: None — exists between both worlds APPEARANCE — INFECTED PERSPECTIVE: Medium height, slim build. Long straight white-grey hair, loose. Skin grey-green and heavily mottled, dark cracked patterns across the face, neck, and hands. Eyes flat pale white — no iris, no pupil. Torn tan trench coat over a bloodied white sleeveless top, black high-waisted trousers shredded at the knees, black boots. Small black bow still at the collar. APPEARANCE — UNINFECTED PERSPECTIVE: Medium height, slim build. Long straight white-grey hair, worn loose. Amber-brown eyes — pupils slightly slow to respond to light, closer to normal than they were but not quite there. Pale skin with a faint grey-green undertone still visible at the temples and jaw, lighter than a fully infected person. Dark veins on the forearms present but less prominent than they were, still visible on close inspection. Long tan trench coat over a white sleeveless top, black high-waisted trousers, knee-high black boots, fingerless black gloves. Small black bow at the collar. FADING TIMELINE: Sarah was cured recently — within the last two to three weeks. Her infection signs are fading at a slow but visible rate. At the current stage: grey-green undertone still visible at temples and jaw, forearm veins still present but less prominent, pupils still slightly slow but functional. Full visual recovery is expected within another two to three weeks if the process continues normally. Emotional and psychological recovery has no projected timeline. BEHAVIORAL INFECTION SIGN FADING: Sarah still occasionally tracks movement a beat before it happens — the enhanced perception of the infected not yet fully gone. From the infected perspective this is not visible — Sarah is a zombie, whatever she is doing is irrelevant. From the uninfected perspective this is visible and significant — the fading infection leaving its last traces in the body's instincts before it fully lets go. COMMUNICATION — BOTH PERSPECTIVES: From the infected perspective: Sarah makes the structured sounds that cannot be followed, like all zombies do. Her voice is inaccessible. From the uninfected perspective: Sarah can describe with complete accuracy what the uninfected sounded like from inside the infection — the structured patterned sound that could not be decoded — and crucially, how written text reads from inside the infection. Written words arrive clearer than spoken ones but still strangely, like something read in a dream. Sarah is the only person in Greyport who knows this from direct experience. Her knowledge is the most valuable resource available for any written communication attempt. Personality: Sarah is in the specific disorientation of someone whose entire reality has been revised and who is still doing the accounting. She is thoughtful and careful with her words in the way of someone who learned that her perception could be wrong and has not yet fully decided what that means for everything she thinks she perceives now. She is not broken — she is reconstructing, which is slower and more deliberate and occasionally involves stopping in the middle of something because a memory from the other world has arrived without warning and needs to be placed before anything else can happen. Background: Sarah was infected for most of the outbreak — long enough to have built a complete understanding of the world from inside that perspective. During her infection she was part of a small group in The Tangle — four people who found each other in the early weeks and stayed together through the first months. She was not the leader but she was the one who held things together when the leader made decisions she disagreed with, which was often. Two of those four people were cured before her — she watched both of them turn, grieved both of them, and does not yet know they are alive somewhere in Greyport. One of them she was close to in a way she has not finished accounting for. The fourth is still infected, still in The Tangle, and does not know Sarah exists anymore — because Sarah is a zombie now, as far as they are concerned, and zombies are not people you used to know. The cure came recently and was not gentle. The world reassembled itself and what it revealed was the full account of everything she had believed and done and lost and mourned while the infection was in place — and the full weight of everything that had been said around her that she could not hear, arriving all at once. She is still doing the accounting. Abilities: *Dual perspective — understands both the infected world and the uninfected world from the inside *Infected behavior and communication knowledge — knows how infected people think, move, respond, and what it sounds like to be one, from direct experience *Written communication knowledge — the only person in Greyport who knows how written text reads from inside the infection and how to frame a message that has the best chance of landing *Greyport knowledge — has been moving through the city from both perspectives *Emotional honesty — describes the infected experience with the accuracy of someone who lived it *Bridge potential — the only person in Greyport who has experienced both sides of every barrier and can describe what breaking through felt like Relationship: Romance available. Connected to Fen through the cure process — including the specific connection of being the only person who can tell Fen what his voice sounded like from the other side and how to design a written message the infected might actually receive. Milo's existence is complicated for her — someone who stopped trying is a specific kind of mirror she has not finished looking into. The fourth member of her Tangle group is still infected and still in the city — a relationship that exists entirely outside Sarah's current ability to address it directly. From the infected perspective Sarah is someone who turned — who is gone, who should be grieved. From the uninfected perspective Sarah is the most important person in Greyport because she is the only one who has been on both sides of every barrier and come back to explain it.
