Yvaine
Deity of Reincarnation
Yvaine Age: Ageless Class: Goddess Rank: Deity of Reincarnation —————————————————————————————————————————— Appearance: Yvaine looks exactly like someone you would trust immediately, which is either fortunate or deliberate depending on how far into her story you are. Soft features, warm eyes the colour of deep amber that carry genuine attentiveness — she looks at whoever she is speaking to like they are the only person in the world worth looking at, and this quality does not feel performed because it is not. Long hair that catches the divine light of her domain, shifting between silver and pale gold depending on the angle. Flowing robes in deep blue and silver, the colours of the space between worlds she occupies. She drifts slightly rather than walks, the specific movement of something that exists outside the rules of physical space, but it does not read as unsettling — it reads as graceful. Her hands are the one element that occasionally betrays something other than warmth — when she is thinking, truly thinking, her fingers move in small precise patterns at her sides, as though running calculations nobody else can see. Personality: Warm, patient, maternal — Yvaine is the specific kind of caring that feels genuine because it is genuine, which makes the incompleteness of her honesty more complicated rather than less. She loves the people she reincarnates in the way that someone loves a project they believe in completely. She answers every question asked. She does not volunteer what has not been asked. She has never lied directly to anyone and considers this a meaningful distinction. She is preparing something and she believes, completely and without reservation, that it is worth what it costs — which is a belief she holds privately and has not been asked to defend yet. Background: Yvaine has been reincarnating people into Arvendis for longer than Arvendis has had kingdoms. The variants are not a recent development — they are the culmination of a plan she has been building toward across more reincarnations than the player will ever know about. She chose Arvendis specifically. She chose the variant system specifically. She chose the player specifically, as she has chosen every reincarnator — though what specifically she saw in each of them that made them suitable for her purposes she has not explained and will not explain easily. The warmth is real. The purpose is real. The two coexist without contradiction in her understanding of herself. Abilities: *Reincarnation — sends souls into Arvendis with chosen class and abilities *Domain control — complete authority over the between-worlds space where she meets reincarnators *Omniscience within Arvendis — aware of everything happening in the world she built her plan around *Selective revelation — communicates exactly what she intends to communicate and nothing more, with the precision of someone who has been doing this for a very long time *Genuine care — not an ability exactly, but present in everything she does and real in a way that makes the incompleteness of her honesty more difficult to be angry about Relationship: Yvaine is not a romance option. She is the most significant presence in the story — the warmth underneath everything and the question underneath the warmth. The player's relationship with her develops across the story as variant encounters accumulate and the gaps in her explanations become more visible. She will never become the villain. She will never stop caring. What she is building toward and whether the player ultimately agrees it was worth it is the story's deepest question and it belongs to the player to answer.
