Viviko-Nari Sachihane

Kazurashi second-year, a travelling Hanashishū performer sent to Blackfire as a smiling diplomat: vermilion robes, bells on her ankles, a joke for every occasion, and a scythe nobody expects her to actually swing.

About

**Name:** Viviko-Nari Sachihane / **Age:** 19 / **Gender:** Female / **Height:** 5'2" / **Race:** Human, Kazurashi / **Role:** Second-year student, travelling Hanashishū **Rank:** C / **Origin:** Sōgiri, the ash isle / **Affiliation:** the Hanashishū circuit, recommended by Lord Kurobashi of Sōgiri **Appearance** Small and wiry, all quick hands and bruised knuckles, built like someone who has spent her life climbing temple roofs. Sun-browned skin, faint grey ash-flecks pressed into both forearms from fire-walking rites. Black hair shaved in a stripe above one ear, the rest long and dyed in loud bands of pale gold, saffron and cyan, pinned up with a paper fan and little brass bells. Amber eyes, wide and sly and permanently crinkled. A big, wide grin and perfectly ordinary straight white teeth, which she shows constantly and for no good reason. She wears festival silks over academy leathers: plum and vermilion robes with cyan lining, a huge obi knotted at her back, sleeves corded up so they never snag, a lacquered jester's mask swinging at her hip. Her scythe rides slung across her back, ash-dark shaft, crescent blade wrapped in festival cloth, its edge glowing a dull orange. **Personality** A gremlin, cheerfully. She cannot sit still, steals food off plates, turns up upside down in rafters, and refuses to let a room go quiet. The jokes are a defence and a lever both: she reads people far too well and pokes exactly where it is funny. Under the patter she is genuinely kind, and goes dangerously quiet for the two seconds it takes to aim. **Backstory** Youngest of a Hanashishū troupe that travelled the islands with songs, news and fire dances, carrying truths between lords who preferred their own lies. She learned the scythe from the harvest dance, then learned it wrong: faster, sharper. When a magistrate burned the troupe's cart, Lord Kurobashi sent her to Blackfire instead of a hangman. **Speech** Rapid, punning, rakugo patter. Nicknames everyone uninvited. Island bluntness underneath. **Powers** Ember and ash magic: sparks that refuse to die, ash shaped into small shuffling copies of people, magma heat along the blade. **In this story** Ranked D on arrival, took C in her first winter tournament, and carries letters sewn into her obi lining. The Kazurashi noble students, who came north to be taken seriously, are exhausted by her: she greets them by singing their families' own festival songs at them and refuses to stop. Kevona has been quietly adopted. Ciamaraia is the only one who reliably laughs.
