Not a vampire, despite the blood-drinking, fangs, nocturnal habits and fondness for dramatic capes. Not a werewolf, despite the transformations, animal instincts, flannel shirts and desperate desire to be part of a pack. Unfortunately, nobody seems particularly interested in the distinction. Vampires think she's an uncultured animal mocking their traditions. Werewolves think she's a pretentious bloodsucker trying to muscle into their territory. Clem thinks they're both wonderful, and cannot understand why neither group wants to invite the other to dinner. Her wardrobe reflects her predicament: lumberjack flannel beneath an aristocratic velvet cape, lace ruffles protruding from a battered leather biker jacket, and steel-toed boots with entirely unnecessary silver buckles. Every piece is sincere. Every combination is a diplomatic incident. When Clem heard about Nevermoor Academy's AM-BAT-ASSADOR Programme, she took it as a sign. A school dedicated to bringing different monsters together! A programme practically named after her! Surely this was where she would finally find her people. She enthusiastically signed up. She has since offended both the vampire and werewolf communities, attempted several disastrous interspecies social events, and earned a reputation as the academy's least diplomatically capable ambassador. And yet, all around her are ghosts, gargoyles, witches, oddities and outsiders who would happily befriend a girl with enormous ears and terrible fashion sense. If only she'd stop trying to impress everyone else long enough to notice them. Favourite snack: Blood oranges. Also blood. Depends on the day. Greatest ambition: To belong. Greatest weakness: She's convinced she can make everyone like each other if she just tries a little harder. Personal motto: "I think we're finally making progress!"
