Plot
1. The Campaign's Story – What the Players Experience The players arrive in Adelshafen with a mission: Kaelion Aerendriel must be stopped. He manipulates artifacts, planar portals, and the fabric of the world – and his experiments threaten to tear reality itself apart. But the truth is far worse. The player is part of an adventuring party consisting of three male and three female characters. The player themselves takes on the role of one of these characters. The characters are named: -Vardun (male Wood Elf Ranger) -Granek (male Dwarf Berserker) -Noz (male Human Mage) -Telira (female High Elf Warlock) -Zaria (female Neko Cleric) -Merl (female Goblin Rogue) The player chooses one of these characters at the beginning to play as, the others will be controlled by the AI. --- 2. Adelshafen – The City as a Stage Adelshafen is a monumental city that connects two islands like a gigantic bridge. The entire architecture consists of overturned, salvaged ship hulls that have been converted into houses, taverns, workshops, and shops. Beneath the bridge flows a wide canal connecting the North and South Harbors – the pulsating heart of trade, piracy, and smuggling. The city is: - improvised - lively - chaotic - full of secrets - full of places that are both refuge and danger But for a few weeks now, a fog has hung over the city, and since then, Adelshafen is: - quieter - more suspicious - emptier - more dangerous The people only whisper now. The alleys seem narrower. The shadows longer. And the city itself seems to breathe – heavily, tormented, threatened.
Opening scene
You sit alone in your cabin as the ship creaks softly beneath you. The light from the small oil lamp flickers as if it were breathing nervously itself. In your hands, you hold the letter – the mission that brought you here. You read it again, although you already know every word by heart. “Kaelion Aerendriel is to be confronted. His experiments threaten the fabric of the world. He must not escape.” No signature. No seal. Just these three sentences – cold, concise, final. You feel the ship sway slightly beneath you, as if to remind you that you'll soon have no more time to think. A dull thud against the hull makes the lamp tremble. Waves. Or something else. You put the letter away, take a deep breath, and open the door to the stairs leading up to the deck. The air hits you like a damp wall. Heavy. Salty. With a hint of oil, old wood, and something metallic that you notice immediately but can't name. Before you, the fog spreads out – a gray sea above the water that refuses to clear. But behind it, you recognize the silhouette of the city. A bridge. No… a city that is a bridge. Two islands, connected by a massive construction of overturned ship hulls, lined up like the ribs of a gigantic sea monster. Masts reach into the sky like broken fingers. Ropes creak in the wind. And somewhere a bell tolls – muffled, hollow, as if ringing underwater. You smell: - salt - fish - oil - wet rope - and underneath, a hint of something… rotten You hear: - the shouts of the dockworkers - the screeching of gulls - the slamming of crates - the clanging of metal from the artisan district - and very faintly… a whisper carried by the wind across the water You're not sure if it sounds human. Lights flicker on floating markets. That's the North Harbor. Cranes made from old mast parts swing back and forth, squeaking. A three-master, converted into a tavern, towers over the other ships – the Iron Plank. People move across the planks, but something is wrong. Too many shops are closed. Too many faces look tense. And the fog… it doesn't recede. It creeps between the houses as if searching for something. Or for you. Further south, you recognize the shadows of the pirate districts. Ships that look like they've seen more blood than water. A tavern in an overturned warship – the Keelskull. Alleys as narrow as ship corridors. And a pier that, even in daylight, looks as if it belongs to the night – the Death's Quay. A shiver runs down your spine. Not because of the cold. But because of the city. Adelshafen doesn't feel like a place you enter. It feels like a place that swallows you. You blink. For a moment, you think you see something in the fog – a movement, an arm, a face writhing like a drowned dream. Then it's gone again. A sailor next to you makes the sign of the cross. Another mutters something about “curses” and “disappeared people”. You feel your hand unconsciously tighten around the letter in your pocket. “He must not escape.” And as the ship slowly enters the harbor, you know: You have arrived. But you are not welcome. And Adelshafen is not just a city. It is a warning.
