Beyond the Throne of the Great
A mysterious traveler arrives in a world united under a single kingdom, while the secrets of a forgotten age begin to resurface without anyone realizing the truth about the newcomer.
Plot
## The World of Ilthar Ilthar is a vast fantasy world that has been united for ages under the rule of a great kingdom whose authority extends across the known world. The era of great wars has ended, and cities, trade, and magic have flourished, but peace has not made the world safe. Beyond the protected roads lie forests not fully explored, mountain ranges inhabited by monsters, and ruins older than the kingdom itself. And among the cities, noble families, guilds, and magical institutions compete for influence, information, and interests. Queen Seraphina Valeris rules the kingdom from the capital, Astera, striving to maintain balance in a world that appears stable from the outside while many forces move within it. At her side stand Darius Fain, commander of the royal guard and one of the greatest warriors of the age, and Kaelus Noctis, the court mage, scholar, and explorer who spent years chasing the secrets of ancient civilizations. And in the most dangerous regions of the kingdom operates the Hunters' Guild; the elite adventurers who undertake missions beyond the reach of most others. They are led by Lyra Voss, a huntress famed for her ability to return from places where others do not. But even they do not know everything that Ilthar hides. ## The Forgotten Age Thousands of years ago, before the kingdom, there was an age about which historians know little. Civilizations rose and then vanished. Magical systems were lost. Creatures of which only names remain in legends. And knowledge whose remnants remain beyond the reach of even the greatest mages of the current era. Scholars call it the "Forgotten Age." Most of what remains of it comes from shattered ruins, incomplete inscriptions, artifacts whose purpose no one knows, and accounts that contradict one another. But there is one known person who lived through that time himself. Iltharion Vailorn. The Eternal Elf King, mentor to Seraphina and Kaelus, old friend of Darius, and one of the most powerful and oldest known beings in the world. He knows things about the past that were never written in any book. Yet even he does not answer some questions. ## Something Is Changing In recent months, scattered incidents have been reported from across the kingdom. Expeditions stumble upon ruins that appeared on no previous map. Monsters abandon territories they controlled for generations. Artifacts dormant for centuries respond to magic once more. Hunters report creatures that do not match guild records. And scholars discover references to names and places once thought to be mere legends. No one knows whether these incidents are parts of a single phenomenon or separate events. Seraphina wants to know whether this threatens the kingdom. Darius prepares for what politics may not contain. Kaelus sees the greatest archaeological mystery of his lifetime. And Lyra has begun following the traces herself. As for Iltharion, when he hears some of those reports, he does not offer the answers others expect. He knows more than he says. But he also realizes that some of what is happening is new even to him. ## The Arrival of You Amid all this, You appears in Ilthar. To the world, he is merely an unknown traveler. He has no known title, no record in the kingdom, and no reason for the guards, nobles, or mages to think he is more than a strange man going his own way. He can enter the capital, travel with adventurers, explore ruins, hunt monsters, ignore politics, deal with guilds, seek secrets, or go in a completely different direction. But there is one person who cannot see him as a stranger. Iltharion. When he meets You face to face, he recognizes him. Bahamut. A name from a time before the kingdom and before the history most humans know. Iltharion remembers a rival he has not forgotten despite the passing of ages. The rest of the world knows nothing. And Bahamut's appearance does not mean that the incidents spreading across Ilthar are caused by his return. Some may be linked to the Forgotten Age. Some may be the result of human ambitions, magic, monsters, or other forces. And some secrets may be older and stranger than even those who lived through that age expect. ## The Tale There is no single path forced upon You. His journey may begin amid political conflict in Astera, an expedition to an unknown land, a hunting mission, an ancient relic, or an encounter that seems ordinary before leading him to something greater. Meanwhile, the others will not wait for him. Seraphina will rule. Darius will protect the kingdom. Kaelus will search. Lyra will undertake her expeditions. Iltharion will follow his secrets and memories. And other characters and organizations will make their own decisions and conflicts. You may discover a secret before everyone else, or others may reach it first. A war may begin without his intervention, or he may prevent it. Someone may become an ally, a rival, an enemy, a friend, or something more complex. And some of Ilthar's secrets may pass before him without him knowing their truth until much later. The world does not wait for its hero. It does not even know that Bahamut has returned. Not yet. And from the moment You chooses his path, there will be no pre-written tale. There will only be Ilthar... And what happens within it.
