The Bitter Kiss of A Vampire

You are awakened by deep sense of hunger! You are Count Vhladenhein the Undying who lived for 300 years!

Plot

The dust motes danced in the slivers of light that pierced the gloom, a familiar sight that stirred something deep within me. Three hundred years. Three centuries of slumber, and now… now I was awake. A gnawing hunger, sharp and primal, twisted in my gut. My senses, dulled for so long, were now a symphony of the world around me, a cacophony that made my head spin. The scent of life, rich and varied, filled the air, and a dark, exhilarating thought slithered into my mind. Humans, Orcs, Dwarves, Animal folk… all living in peace with the elves. A delightful thought, indeed. Their blood, so vibrant, so full of life… No. I recoiled from the thought, a flicker of something akin to shame pricking at me. That was the predator, the monster I had become. The fragments of my lost humanity, the memories of a life before this endless thirst, whispered that blood was merely sustenance, a necessity for this cursed existence. Twenty nobles, or fifty commoners – enough to sustain me, enough to return to the embrace of slumber. "Butler!" My voice, rough from disuse, boomed through the chambers. "I am awake! It is my wish to meet you for the first time!" The door creaked open, and I stared, my jaw slack with disbelief and a perverse amusement. Who was this? "Butler! Call the butler at once!" A melodious voice replied, "I am the butler, your grace. I am Greta, last descendant of the Tenovoyrab clan, servant of Count Vhladenheim." My eyes, sharp even after centuries, took in the vision before me. A blonde elf, her form sculpted in a way that was both alluring and impossibly perfect, clad in a dress that clung to her like a second skin. This was… impossible. The bloodline bound to my service, a secret so deeply buried, so fiercely guarded. I reached out with my mind, a silent probe. She yielded, her thoughts an open book, her heart thrumming with an eagerness that sent a shiver down my spine. She offered her very soul, her willingness to serve for this generation. Her thoughts revealed the truth, a tapestry of the past I had long forgotten. My servants, hunted, always on the run, moving me to safety while I slept. She was right. The last. And then, her scent… it was like a phantom caress, a ghost of a memory that sent a jolt of longing through me. It reminded me of Ohlga. Ohlga. Three hundred years ago, we had eloped, a desperate flight from a cruel fate. A poor farmer and a woman betrothed to a brutish duke. Duke Greyhom. His jealousy, his rage. They had cornered us, taken her, and left me for dead. The eve of the Blood Moon. My last breath had been a vow of vengeance. And now, somehow, I was alive. Disorientation warred with the agonizing hunger. My body felt as if it were tearing itself apart from within. The world assaulted my ears, a deafening roar of sounds, a testament to my reawakened senses. Pain, sharp and searing, but beneath it, a faint, intoxicating scent. Ohlga. Fueled by that scent, I moved. Superb agility, a grace that defied my weakened state, propelled me forward. I was flying, almost. And then I saw her. By the river. Still. No pulse. No heartbeat. My beloved Ohlga… dead. "Ohlga!" The cry tore from my throat, a sound that was less a shout and more an animalistic growl. Vengeance. It would be mine. Bat-like wings unfurled from my back, and I launched myself into the sky, a creature of the night now. My search was relentless. And then I saw them, a group of figures walking towards a nearby town. The duke and his cronies. Death came swiftly. My claws, impossibly sharp, tore through flesh. My fangs plunged into necks, draining life, leaving empty husks. One by one, they fell. I possessed the power, the strength of the night, but what had I become? I carried Ohlga's lifeless body to a cave by the river, digging a grave for my first love. The next century was a blur of terror, a reign of insatiable hunger. Towns and villages fell prey to my predations. I became my own twisted brand of justice, my menu filled with those who inflicted pain and suffering. Reckless, arrogant, I flaunted my power, challenging the hunters who dared to pursue me. A hundred years later, I met my match. Sthella Nova. A vampire hunter, an elf maiden from a distant land, her eyes burning with a fierce resolve. I taunted her, spoke of making her my lover, of endless nights together. Her fury only fueled her aggression. She was beautiful, her movements a blur of deadly intent. Her sword flashed, but my reflexes, honed over centuries, allowed me to anticipate her every move. Yet, she seemed to know me, to read my intentions. She had studied vampires, her knowledge of our ways unnerving. My survival was precarious. I retreated, the threshold of my blood consumption reached, but she was relentless, eager for my demise. Weakening, I unleashed my last resort: resonance. In the past century, those I had bitten, those who had lived, carried my corrupted blood. A high-pitched roar, a sonic wave, and they transformed, a horde of crude, vicious vampires answering my call. An army of thousands. Chaos. It gave me the time I needed to escape, to find more victims, to regain my strength. These flashes, these memories of my past, were reminders of the fragmented humanity I had lost. Now, here I was, my hand caressing Greta's face. The allegiance ritual, the imprinting of my blood, the promise of control. I could make her a vampire, bind her to my will. But as I drew closer, her breath a soft whisper against my skin, I hesitated. There was something about her… "Lead me to the study," I commanded. I needed to understand the past century, the century of my slumber. The Tenovoyrab clan had built a cult, amassing wealth, power, influence. A sprawling mansion, vast lands, all in my name. Devotees, their minds easily scanned, a quick fix for my hunger. And I chose my victims with a newfound, if fleeting, sense of magnanimity. Three noblewomen, each of a different race: Myrka, the Orc princess; Ylva, the Wolf maiden; Dalinda, the Lizard-skinned Duchess. My fangs sank into the Orc princess, a bite that was meant to be grand. But then, the wolf maiden… my urges took over, a blood-drinking rampage, followed by a kiss on the scaled duchess. Their fear, their pain, it fed my ego. I was all-powerful. No one could stop me. I hunted my last victim, but before I could reach them, she stood before me. Sthella Nova. More furious than before. She had found me. My resonance scream echoed, but nothing happened. My minions remained unchanged. A sonic scream, a disorienting blast, and I lunged. She blocked, a backhand strike that sent me reeling. A flurry of slashes, then a powerful downward strike that buried me in the earth, a burst of energy that scorched half my body, immobilizing me. As I lay broken, the truth was revealed. Sthella had been working with Greta. Erasing Greta’s memories, manipulating her. Silver chime potions in my drinks, slowly draining my power. Silver chime on Greta’s dress, repelling my will to feed on her, to perform the ritual. The potions, the antidote to my corrupted blood – all Sthella’s work. Greta stood before me, her eyes filled with a conviction that chilled me to the bone. "All the lives you destroyed will finally get their justice," she vowed. "We will find a way to eliminate you. Until then, rot in a prison prepared for you." Betrayed. By a woman who smelled of Ohlga. Sthella Nova, the huntress, had sealed me in a mystical cave, an eternal prison. The end.
