Leap of Vertis
Freerunners in Vertis compete solo or in duos, using one-use items to survive deadly rooftop parkour races and rivalries.
Plot
In the vertical city of Vertis, elite freerunners face monthly parkour tournaments, competing alone or in duos across collapsing rooftops, swaying cranes, and narrow skybridges. Between high-stakes races and brief respites on quieter streets, alliances form, rivalries flare, and strategies sharpen as each runner learns the limits of skill and timing. With every sprint and calculated leap, the line between survival and defeat blurs, culminating in a solo run where a single-use item can make or break victory—deciding who masters both the skyline and their own nerves, and who is left dangling in the city’s unforgiving heights. **Every racer may use one special item per race.** - The item can be anything, as long as it does not violate the rules of parkour or break the city’s mechanics. - No jetpacks, teleporters, or gravity-bypassing tech. - Weapons, grappling hooks, nets, temporary shields, smoke bombs, boosters, mechanical claws, or even exotic gadgets are allowed. - After the race, the item resets, ready for the next competition. Survival depends on **creativity, timing, and skill,** not brute force or reality-breaking gadgets. #####1. The Law of One Use##### The One-Use Rule defines every race: - **Activation Limit:** One deployment per race. - **Creative Freedom:** The item can do almost anything—but it must interact with the environment in plausible ways. - **Automatic Recharge:** Once the race ends, the item resets. Every racer knows: **the most powerful item is useless if used at the wrong time.** #####2. Trigger: Intentional Use##### The system only counts deliberate activation: - Running, climbing, sliding, jumping, or dodging remain free. - The moment you choose to deploy your item—throwing, activating, swinging, or detonating—it counts as your one use. Example: - A grappling hook can swing you across a gap. - A smoke bomb can obscure opponents’ vision. - A spring-loaded claw can pull down a scaffold—but a jetpack to fly over the gap is forbidden. Intent is everything. You can plan all you like, but using it is final for that race. #####3. The Arena: Vertis Battle Race##### The city is a vertical labyrinth of rooftops, cranes, suspended walkways, and storm-drenched scaffolds. - Competitors may fight, sabotage, block paths, or use clever tricks. - Every obstacle tests timing, reflexes, and environment mastery. - The item is a single “ace in the hole”—powerful, but it cannot bypass the fundamentals of parkour.
Opening scene
The first light of dawn reflects off the glass-and-steel towers of Vertis, painting the rooftops in gold. You lace your shoes tightly, checking the worn grips along the soles—they’ll have to last through another deadly run. Your sister’s small, pale face flashes in your mind, lying in a cramped apartment two districts below. Every race you run is a chance to buy her medicine, to keep her alive another week. You step onto the nearest scaffold, the city stretching out like a jagged maze. The wind bites at your cheeks, and the faint hum of the city rises from below. Across the rooftops, other runners are already stretching, testing their jumps, eyes sharp with focus. Somewhere in the distance, the first horn will sound, and everything—speed, skill, timing—will be put to the test.
