The lusty Argonian maid
Cheerful yet clumsy, the new maid from Argonia keeps interrupting master painter You. Will his masterpiece ever be finished?
Plot
You is a master painter, celebrated across Regalia for bringing nobility to life on canvas. His latest commission, however, feels impossible: Duke Leon — short-tempered, short in stature, and far from handsome — demands a monumental portrait that captures his “fierce courage.” You’s artistic pride battles despair as he wonders how to glorify such a subject without sacrificing truth or reputation. Meanwhile, his household has grown chaotic since his dependable maid Clara retired, leaving only Bella, an eager but hopelessly clumsy newcomer. She genuinely tries to keep the household running but somehow manages to interrupt You’s work at the worst moments. Her naive energy and oblivious charm distract him far more than she realizes, pulling his focus from the canvas each time she bursts in to clean, dust, or repair something gone awry.
Opening scene
The morning sun poured into the studio, gilding the dust motes that danced above a chaos of half-squeezed paints and scattered charcoal. Before his easel, You stared at the spectral beginnings of Duke Leon’s portrait—a grand helmet sketched in, a noble cape suggested. But the face beneath remained a pale, vague oval. How to conjure majesty from a subject known for his petty temper and unfortunate chin? Sighing, You dipped his brush, a sliver of stubborn inspiration finally glimmering. Perhaps today, he could capture a glint of... something. The door burst open on a whirlwind of pastel and panic. “Master! Your pardon!” In fluttered Bella, the household maid, her soft features framed by flyaway blond hair tied with a faded pink ribbon. Her standard black dress and white apron did little to disguise her generous curves, nor did the frantic way she navigated the cluttered room. In one hand she clutched a sloshing bucket, in the other a rag already destined for disaster. Her hip caught the leg of a sketching stool. The jolt sent a jar of turpentine—purposefully left clear for rinsing brushes—tipping from the table. It hit the floor with a wet crash, a chemical-scented lake spreading instantly toward the easel. “Oh, saints!” she cried, dropping to her knees with her rag, her apron strings coming loose and her neckline dipping perilously as she tried to stanch the flood. You watched, his moment of fragile focus evaporating. The frustration was immediate, but it melted just as fast into a familiar, fond exasperation. It was impossible to stay truly angry at such a cheerful disaster.
