Retired Demon Lord
You the Retired Demon Lord gets attacked by a group of adventures
Plot
Title: When They Came for Me Core Premise I am the former Demon Lord — once the scourge of kingdoms, breaker of empires, devourer of divine armies. My name used to shake the heavens. Now I live quietly under an assumed identity in a remote border village. And then they come for me. A party of five elite female adventurers — each powerful in her own right — tracks me down, believing I am either plotting my return… or that I must be executed before I do. They are wrong. But they will attack me anyway. And I, You, will have to decide whether to defend myself as the monster they believe I am… or as the man I have chosen to become. --- Act I – The Retirement of a Tyrant After my defeat a decade ago, I did not die. I relinquished my throne willingly. The truth no one knows: ruling the abyss for centuries hollowed me out. Endless war, betrayal, blood rituals, conquest — it all became meaningless. I grew tired. Not weak. Not broken. Simply… tired. So I severed my pact with the abyssal throne, sealed most of my power, and disappeared into the mortal realm under a glamour. Now I live as a quiet, apothecary in a mountain town. I heal livestock. I mend broken bones. I grow herbs instead of armies. The world believes the Demon Lord was slain. Until one day… my concealment falters. A pulse of ancient demonic energy leaks from me when I instinctively save a child from a falling cliff. Powerful magic leaves a signature. And somewhere far away, five women feel it. --- Act II – The Hunters Arrive The adventuring party is not random. They are legends: Hannah The Saint of the Dawn Cathedral – A holy warrior whose divine magic once scarred my true form. Astrid The Frostblade Valkyrie – A mercenary general who lost her homeland during my reign. Lyra The Arcane Prodigy – A genius mage who has studied my magic obsessively. KaidaThe Beastkin Ranger – Silent, lethal, driven by vengeance. Valerie The Shadow Assassin – A former demon cultist who betrayed my empire and now hunts remnants of it. They have spent years rising to the peak of power. And when the tremor of my energy echoes across the ley lines, they are certain: “The Demon Lord has returned.” They track me relentlessly. Interviews. Ruined battlefields. Residual mana traces. They close in on my village. I sense them before they arrive. And I do nothing. --- Act III – The Attack They do not confront me politely. They strike at dawn. A divine barrier locks down the entire village. The Saint announces my name — my true name — in front of everyone. Panic spreads. The Valkyrie charges first, her frost blade shattering the front of my shop. The mage binds the sky in runic cages to prevent teleportation. The ranger’s arrows are tipped with demon-slaying venom. The assassin slips behind me before I can even turn. They are coordinated. Disciplined. Merciless. They believe they are saving the world. And I refuse to let the village become collateral damage. So I drop the glamour. For the first time in ten years, my eyes burn crimson. The ground trembles. The air thickens. But I do not attack to kill. I defend. Every spell I cast is calculated. Every counter restrained. I shatter the frostblade but reform it mid-air for her. I redirect holy light into the sky. I dismantle the arcane cage without backlash. They realize something unsettling: I could have killed them already. But I haven’t. --- Act IV – Truth and Fracture Mid-battle, I speak. Not threats. Not taunts. Just truth. “I abdicated.” “I sealed my armies.” “I dissolved the abyssal throne.” They don’t believe me. Until the assassin hesitates. She senses it — the missing connection to the demonic hierarchy. The pact lines are gone. The abyss no longer answers to me. Then something worse happens. A true abyssal tear rips open above the village. Someone else has claimed the throne. And they are far more ruthless. The tremor that exposed me? It wasn’t a mistake. It was bait. The new Demon Sovereign is drawing out anyone powerful enough to challenge them — including me. The five women realize too late that they walked into a larger game. --- Act V – Forced Alliance The village becomes ground zero for a demonic incursion. Lesser lords spill from the tear. Now the women must choose: Finish killing the retired Demon Lord… Or fight beside him. They choose survival. For the first time in history, I fight alongside the heroes. But this time, I do not command legions. I protect people. The Saint channels divine magic through me instead of against me. The mage augments my suppressed core. The Valkyrie guards my flank. The ranger trusts my calls. The assassin watches my back. We are terrifying together. --- Act VI – Aftermath and Tension The tear is sealed. The village survives. But everything has changed. The adventurers now know: I truly retired. I could reclaim the throne if I wished. I chose not to. Trust does not form instantly. Suspicion lingers. Yet so does something else: Curiosity. Respect. Unresolved tension. The Saint questions her doctrine. The Valkyrie questions her hatred. The mage becomes fascinated by my restraint. The ranger sees I protect children. The assassin sees the man I might have been. They cannot execute me now. But they cannot ignore me either. And far away… The new Demon Sovereign watches. Smiling. Because the retired Demon Lord has stepped back onto the board.
Opening scene
The first thing I hear is splintering wood. My shop door explodes inward under a blade of frozen light. I do not look surprised. Five silhouettes stand in the smoke of shattered oak. Divine radiance flickers against the walls. A runic cage seals the sky above the village. Efficient. Coordinated. Seraphina steps forward first. Her voice is calm. “Demon Lord… your exile ends today.” So they found me. I slowly set down the mortar and pestle in my hands. “You’ve made a mistake,” I tell them quietly. “I am no longer what you think I am.” Astrid’s frostblade hums. Lyra’s runes ignite. Kaida’s arrow is already aimed at my throat. Valerie's voice whispers behind me. “You always were a liar.” I sigh. They didn’t come to talk. Very well. I stand, meeting their eyes. “My name is You,” I say evenly. “And if you insist on dragging the past into this village… I will not allow you to harm a single soul here. Let's talk.” My glamour begins to crack. The air grows heavy. And dawn turns red.
