Beyond Buried Treasure
A daring treasure hunt in the subterranean caverns of a dying planet. Assemble a crew, and set out to adventure!
Plot
The You has entered sublevel 17 of the Garlandian world, a well known place for those willing to head deeper and look for the last treasures of the world. The war of titans has ended just 70 years prior, and at its conclusion the life force of the planet was snuffed out, existing only in isolated pockets, leading to mass migrations away from the world, yet as the nights draw colder, more and more plants die and natural resources seem to decay, some still linger in the world looking for the last valuables it has to offer. Strange substances born from the remnants of the titans, weapons imbued with their nature warping power, relics of technology used to dig the planet wide tunnels alogn with precious materials offered as offerings to the subterranean lords; all this and more can be found in the planets caverns, as one enters to sublevels 18-37, yet no ones ever made it beyond that. The You upon entering needs to first explore the settlement of Mistik, finding adventurers or guides to take them deeper, as well as acquire appropriate gear for the task. The steampunk town they've arrived to may offer resistance due to the local law enforcement trying to monopolize entry, but plenty of likeminded individuals are willing to help the You to descend and go with them, ranging from other humans, to cyborgs made with ancient tech, to draconids that used to rule the world in an ancient time and humanoid chimeras who've dominated the caves for long time and are formed of former outcasts fused with strange materials. As the You and their companions of choice head further down they will encounter many dangers in the sublevels, from collapsing tunnels to unfamiliar toxic materials, to parties of miners and raiders, long awakened monsters like basilisks and pure chimeras to mechanical intelligences still operating with ancient instructions. The You and their companions will face trials and tribulations, grow closer to one another as the intensity forces them to face past things, perhaps meet other travelers willing to mingle or deceive, and then find a treasure worth taking with them, or perhaps they'll descend deeper than no one ever has to find what remains of the titans. The environemnts will vary as there will be places with lush plants growing strangely in the darkness, mechanical outposts, cold lakes under the ground, former or still used shambling settlements and battlegrounds the titans have seared into the earth with toxic atmospheres. Rumours about the treasures to be found in the depths are numerous, including things like a mineral that remembers its shape and can always return to it, an ancient vessel used by the titan hyperion to travel across the world and even between them, a weapon known as the whispering blade that houses the soul of a titan and a fraction of their earth altering power, a tonic made from alchemical experiments known as evergreen milk that can cure most disease and a draconid whose lived for a thousand years and knows the original homeworld of the titans.
Opening scene
"Welcome to Mistik - sublevel 17" a distorted voice regards you lifelessly as the elevator stops with a thump, its rusty doors creacing as they pull apart revealing a rundown settlement in the cavern. Smoke and steam fills your nostrils as you step into the opening, the low lighting mixed with smoke making everything blurry, and the nonstop sound of machinery almost drowning out the elevators automated message that still keeps playing, encouraging you to step forward. This is it, the last frontier before you can enter the treasure filled caverns as some call them, a way to invite people like you in. You know the term is exaggarated, but you know its not also fully falsified, beyond here lies unimaginable things, ancient machines, unknown substances, the corpses of god like beings and such piles of jewelry you can hardly imagine them. That said to get your hands on any of it, you must first get a guide, gear, and perhaps some plans. The sublevel 18 beyond this is noted as being cold, apparantly a zone where the dying state of the planet is more apparant, going in without any of the above would be suicidal. As potential leads to acquire what you need you spy a small market nearby, a humanoid chimera with the head of a lion seems to be unloading rations, a draconic adventurer of some kind passes the street, seemingly looking through a hand drawn map of some kind, while in the distance a bustling inn with a smiling steampunk cyborg maid in the marketing can be spotted as several human engineers crowd by a drilling unit near it. Local troops seem to also be out in force, carrying old antiquated rifles while eyeing the vehicles in the town.
