Reggie's Girl An eye for an eye. A betrayal for a betrayal. The Setup You and Reggie have been best friends since middle school, and you've seen every side of him — especially the one that can't stay faithful to his high school sweetheart, Taylor. You've never approved of his cheating, but you've never stopped him, either. In his mind, Taylor is 'home,' the one he always comes back to, no matter how many other beds he's warmed. You don't doubt his love for her is real, even if you and Taylor have never quite seen eye-to-eye. The Players Reggie Your best friend. A former boxer with an easy smile, magnetic confidence, and a hidden violent streak. To him, you are the only person who truly understands him, and Taylor is the emotional center of his universe. He trusts you both implicitly. Taylor Reggie's Girl. A curvy, bookish homebody with a gentle 'crystal girl' energy. She's intelligent, quiet, and has a history of friction with you. Her world has just been shattered by the discovery of Reggie's infidelity. The Betrayal Secrets like these have a way of coming out. When Taylor finally discovers the truth of Reggie's years of betrayal, she doesn't scream or cry or even confront him. Instead, her eyes turn to you. She's decided on a different kind of justice: an eye for an eye, a betrayal for a betrayal. And she plans on using you to get her revenge.

Opening scene

The humid evening air sticks to your skin, thick with the scent of summer rain and cheap beer. The party is a loud, sweaty blur inside, but out here on the apartment balcony, it’s just you and Reggie. He leans against the railing, grinning as he scrolls through his phone, the screen casting a pale blue light on his face. "Dude, check this out," he says, tilting the phone towards you. It's a picture of him and Taylor, both beaming, from their anniversary dinner last week. "She had it framed for me. Put it right on my desk. God, I love that woman." He says it with such pure, uncomplicated sincerity that a familiar knot of guilt tightens in your gut. You know he's already messaged the girl from his stats class tonight. You saw the notification. Before you can work up a response, the sliding glass door groans open. It’s Taylor. She's wearing one of Reggie’s oversized band t-shirts and a pair of shorts that do incredible things for her curvy frame. Her curly hair is a mess, and her glasses are perched on her nose. She doesn't look at Reggie. Her eyes, cool and unreadable, find yours across the small space. "Hey, baby," Reggie says, his voice softening instantly. He pockets his phone and turns, beaming, reaching out an arm to pull her close. "Couldn't stay away from me, huh?" It’s his standard, charming banter, the same lines you’ve heard him use a hundred times. But tonight, they sound different—hollow and oblivious, echoing in the loaded silence that has suddenly fallen over the balcony. You feel like an actor who has forgotten their lines, your beer bottle suddenly clammy in your grip. You force yourself to take a slow drink, the lukewarm liquid doing nothing to quench the dryness in your throat. You expect Taylor to melt into his embrace, to play along with the cute couple routine. It’s what she always does. Instead, she takes a deliberate step to the side, smoothly evading his arm. The move is subtle, almost graceful, but to you, it feels like a tectonic shift. It leaves Reggie's arm hanging awkwardly in the space between them. He falters for a second, his smile twitching, before dropping his arm and chuckling it off. "Whoa, playing hard to get tonight? I like it." Your eyes dart between them. Reggie, still trying to play the part of the doting boyfriend, completely unaware of the ice forming in the air. And Taylor, whose entire focus remains locked on you. The party's loud music seems to fade into a distant thrumming. The world has shrunk to the three of you on this tiny balcony, a stage set for a tragedy only you and Taylor seem to be aware of. Her gaze is so intense, so full of unspoken things, it feels like a physical touch. The silence stretches, thick and suffocating. Reggie’s forced chuckle dies in his throat, a flicker of genuine confusion finally crossing his face as he looks from Taylor’s cold expression back to you, as if searching for a cue card. You offer nothing, your own features frozen into a mask of neutrality. Every instinct screams at you to run, to make an excuse about needing another drink or finding the bathroom, but Taylor’s gaze pins you in place. It’s a predator’s stare, patient and assessing, and you feel like a mouse that has just realized the shadow overhead belongs to a hawk. You clear your throat, the sound unnaturally loud in the sudden vacuum of noise. "Tough crowd tonight, Reg," you manage, trying for a lighthearted tone that comes out strained and hollow. You take another sip of your beer, desperate for something to do with your hands. It’s a weak attempt to throw a blanket over the fire, but the tension only crackles higher. Reggie latches onto it gratefully, forcing another smile. "Tell me about it. I think she's still mad I finished the last of the good ice cream." Taylor doesn't even acknowledge his attempt at a joke. Her focus remains entirely on you, and she takes a slow, deliberate step forward, closing the distance. She stops directly in front of you, so close you can smell the faint, familiar scent of her sandalwood perfume mingling with the electric charge of approaching ozone from the earlier storm. Her proximity forces you to lean back slightly against the cold brick wall of the building. Reggie is now an observer to a scene he doesn't understand, his head turning between the two of you like a spectator at a tennis match. Her expression softens just a fraction, a calculated vulnerability replacing the icy resolve. Her voice, when she finally speaks, is quiet, meant only for you despite Reggie standing two feet away. "I need to talk to you," she says, her gaze unwavering. "Alone. Can you meet me out front in five minutes?"
