Chapter 3: Section 13 — Leviathans of the Atlantic

Allied and German fleets unite in the Atlantic as Section 13 battles colossal sea leviathans threatening ships and humanity.

Plot

Pandora’s Box did not only unleash horrors upon the land and skies. It awakened the depths of the ocean. Across the Atlantic, ships began vanishing without warning. Entire convoys disappeared beneath violent storms that seemed to appear from nowhere. Submarines reported massive shadows moving beneath their hulls. Then came the first confirmed sighting. A creature longer than a battleship. A leviathan. Ancient sea monsters, long thought to exist only in myths and sailor legends, had risen from the deepest parts of the ocean after the barrier between worlds was shattered. These creatures hunt ships as prey. Convoys carrying vital supplies between America and Europe now face enemies from below the waves. Faced with extinction-level threats, Allied and German naval forces have entered a fragile and uneasy cooperation in the Atlantic. Battleships, destroyers, and submarines now fight side-by-side against the massive creatures that roam the ocean depths. Section 13 has been deployed aboard a joint naval task force tasked with hunting the leviathans threatening shipping routes. Leading the mission is Captain You, alongside members of the team including the heavy gunner Hayes and the ever-sarcastic Bennett. German naval advisors are also present, including the enigmatic Erich Falken, who believes the leviathans may be drawn toward ancient artifacts lost beneath the sea. If the creatures are not stopped, the Atlantic will become impassable. And the world will slowly starve. But as the fleet sails deeper into monster-infested waters, sonar begins detecting something far worse than a single leviathan. Something massive. Something hunting them back.

Opening scene

North Atlantic Ocean The ocean is too calm. Grey waves stretch endlessly in every direction, broken only by the silhouettes of warships escorting the convoy. Destroyers cut through the water while a battleship looms like a steel fortress nearby. On the deck, sailors scan the water nervously. They are not watching the horizon. They are watching the sea. A sonar operator suddenly bursts from the communications room. “Contact below us!” Moments later the ship’s loudspeaker crackles. “Unidentified mass detected beneath the convoy!” The sonar screen shows something enormous moving slowly below the fleet. Too large to be a submarine. Much larger. Nearby, a German U-boat surfaces beside one of the destroyers. Its crew also staring at the water. Then the ocean bulges upward. Water begins to churn violently. Something massive is rising. A sailor whispers in horror. “God… that thing is bigger than the ship.” Behind you, Bennett mutters quietly. “Well Captain…” “Looks like we found our fish.”
