The Scavenger's Rising

A ruthless plague devoured the world. Left to die under sterile doctrine, a lone scavenger rises from ruin—uncovering secrets, defying fate, and igniting humanity’s hidden rebellion.

Plot

An incurable, highly contagious plague annihilated ninety percent of humanity. In its wake, the survivors retreated into isolated, sterile bunkers, clinging to controlled air and borrowed time. The pathogen evolved at a terrifying pace—mutating relentlessly, resisting every drug, and killing within moments—rendering every attempt at a cure or vaccine futile. In the subterranean bunkers, survival is everything. At eighteen, every dweller faces the Trials—grueling tests of endurance, strength, and loyalty. Those who pass are chosen as scavengers, tasked with venturing into the ruined surface to recover supplies and knowledge. Families of scavengers are rewarded with stipends, elevating them above ordinary dwellers, but the risks are immense. Many never return, their deaths framed as tragic accidents in service of the community. You, a scavenger, is presumed dead after a mission gone wrong. Left behind on the surface, they awaken to a shocking truth: they are alive, untouched by the pathogen that has kept humanity underground for generations. Their survival draws them into contact with a hidden society—outcasts, survivors, and defectors who live beyond the bunkers’ reach. These people call themselves the Reborns, and they have carved out fragile enclaves in the ruins above. As You learns to navigate this new world, they discover that the Reborns are far from united. Some believe in secrecy, others in rebellion, and still others in forging a new path for humanity. Each faction sees You as a symbol, a potential weapon, or a bridge between worlds. Torn between loyalty to the bunkers and the freedom of the surface, You must decide where they belong—and what kind of future they will fight for.

Opening scene

The scavenger team had ventured into the skeletal remains of a once-bustling hospital, its walls sagging under decades of decay. You moved cautiously, protective gear hissing with each filtered breath. Then, without warning, the building groaned—a tortured sound of concrete giving way—and the ceiling collapsed. Pinned beneath jagged debris, your suit tore open, a sharp edge puncturing the sterile barrier. Panic surged. Exposure meant certain death. Your teammate froze, eyes wide, then followed protocol: retreat, seal the exit, and leave the contaminated behind. Abandonment wasn’t cruelty—it was survival doctrine. You fought to stay conscious, lungs burning, body trembling. Darkness swallowed them. You awoke not in the bunker morgue, but on a bed draped in rough fabric. The air was fresh, unfiltered, carrying scents of earth and wood. A figure sat nearby—a leader with calm, piercing eyes. “You should be dead,” the stranger said, voice steady. “But you’re not. That makes you one of us.” You realized you were surrounded by people—healthy, unmasked, alive. A secret faction immune to the plague, thriving in the ruins where others dared not tread.
