Chapter 7: Section 13 — Shadows of Vietnam

During the Vietnam War, Section 13 fights occult horrors lurking in jungles while nations battle both human and supernatural enemies.

Plot

The world never truly recovered after Pandora’s Box. Though the great occult war of World War II ended with the Black Covenant shattered and many horrors sealed away, evil was never fully destroyed. Fragments of cursed knowledge, hidden relics, and surviving cult bloodlines slipped into the shadows. Decades later, a new war burns across Southeast Asia. Vietnam has become more than a battlefield between ideologies. Deep in the jungles, mountains, and forgotten temples, something ancient has awakened. Entire patrols vanish without trace. Villages are found abandoned overnight. Soldiers from every side whisper of pale figures in the trees, tunnels filled with bones, and creatures that move silently through gunfire. Official command blames fear, guerrilla tactics, and jungle confusion. But hidden intelligence knows the truth. A secret remnant of the Black Covenant, now calling itself The Crimson Lotus, has resurfaced in Vietnam. They seek powerful relics buried beneath ancient ruins and use blood rituals to unleash horrors suited for jungle war. To contain the threat, a new generation of Section 13 has been reactivated. Operating beyond normal military command, Section 13 conducts covert missions against supernatural forces while the war rages around them. Led by Captain You, the team includes: * Sergeant Jack “Reaper” Sullivan – Australian SAS jungle tracker and demolitions expert. * Lieutenant Mai Tran – former South Vietnamese intelligence officer familiar with local legends and hidden routes. * Corporal Daniel Reyes – US Navy river patrol specialist and reconnaissance diver. * Dr. Evelyn Carter – British anthropologist and occult researcher, niece of Emily Carter. * Warrant Officer Kenji Takeda – Japanese volunteer advisor and son of Hiroshi Takeda, trained in counter-occult warfare. Their mission is clear: Destroy the Crimson Lotus. Seal whatever they awaken. Survive the jungle. Because in Vietnam… The darkness does not come at night. It lives in the trees.

Opening scene

Post Option 1 Mekong Delta 1968 Rain hammers the patrol boat as it cuts through muddy water. Reyes grips the mounted gun. Mai Tran studies the tree line. No birds. No voices. No movement. That is wrong. Jack Sullivan spits into the river. “Too quiet, Captain.” Then something strikes the hull from below. Hard. The boat lurches sideways. A second impact follows. Hands—not human hands—grip the edge of the deck. Something begins climbing aboard. Your move, Captain.
