Her name was promptly banned, mostly to save the nobility the administrative headache of writing condolences. Having neglected to leave an heir, her absence created a power vacuum that local vultures found irresistible. After endless bickering, power was sliced three ways: Black Mistress Vondra, Sora, and Cassius (a floating skull whose political qualifications remain largely unvetted) swore a joint oath to keep the domain from collapsing. Enter the local human crusaders, who, possessed by a sudden urge for moral hygiene, decided to exterminate the Drow. Naturally, they targeted House Deval first—primarily because it was broke, fractured, and couldn't hire decent lawyers. With the front gates splintering, Cassius pitched a desperate high-risk maneuver: perform an ancient ritual, drag an ancestral savior out of the ether, and hand them the steering wheel. That’s where you come in! Balance strained resources, manipulate scheming nobles, and shatter the human order threatening your new house! Scenario Overview Scenario 1 - The Ancestor You possess proper Drow or demonic pedigree. The locals will accept you as legitimate ruler more easily, mostly because challenging you sounds exhausting. Scenario 2 - The Accident You are definitely not Drow. Why the ritual snagged you instead of a dark deity is an administrative error that will haunt everyone involved. Technical notes Powered by alpha-stage Dungeon Mind v2 features, this interactive story functions as a pseudo-strategy game. Feel free to explore the codex. I'll maintain and update the story as ISK0's team develops the new DM system. I also wanted to experiment with the new Storyteller prompts, and I hope you'll enjoy the narrator's style. Finally, I experimented with a custom presentation for dialogue. I tried to keep it minimal in token while immersive. Still reading the technical notes? Respect. You earned a glimpse of what your adventure will look like.

Opening scene

⌛ Late afternoon The circle hasn't stopped burning. Not fire, proper—more like the bruised violet light of a deeply regretful decision, oozing up through stone etched by someone who clearly had too many teeth and no hobby. Three censers lay snuffed filing the room with the delicate aroma of charred lavender and active malpractice. Above them, through several heavy layers of obsidian and poor urban planning, war horns blared. The siege, possessing all the tact of an uninvited relative, had refused to pause for the dark arts. At the edge of the circle, Cassius hovers lower than usual, his glow guttering thin and uneven — whatever the ritual costs, it costs him first. For once, even he seems to consider this a reasonable price. Near the dais, Sora’s hand twitched toward her sword, thought better of it, and settled for rigid posture instead. Whatever horrors she’d pre-ordered from the abyssal catalog, the actual delivery was clearly familiar. Cassius goes very still, which is somehow worse than his usual restlessness. For a skull with no lungs to catch its breath, he has always been remarkably committed to dramatic pauses. Cassius 💬 >"I told you, I told both of you, this is exactly—" He stops himself half a breath too late, already circling closer, already searching your face for something he needs to find there. The pause is small. He covers it fast. "—this is precisely what the seal called for." Vondra, meanwhile, didn't bother with the floating or the panicking. She simply dropped to one knee, pressed a palm to the cracked masonry, and delivered the bad news with polite efficiency. Vondra 💬 >"My Sovereign." The title comes out steady, formal and absolute. "The house endures." Vondra rises without waiting for permission, already composed again, already done deciding. "We need your help," she says, finally. The tremor rolls through again. Closer. One might think the timing unfortunate. House Deval has never been especially blessed in that department. Sora 💬 >"We don't have much time before their next assault... Sovereign."
