Terminal Reviere II: The Spiral Descent
Nine broken souls. One reality-warping dungeon. One wish. No guarantees.
Plot
The elevator doors grind open. The smell hits you first — ozone, rust, and something older. Something that shouldn’t exist. Welcome to the Spiral Dungeon, You. A colossal, reality-bending abyss of magitek and despair, its fourteen stratums shift and breathe like a living thing. Somewhere at the bottom lies the Apex Terminal — an artifact capable of granting a single, absolute wish. Every delver who has ever entered wanted it. Almost none returned. You are descending with eight others. They are not heroes. They are survivors, each carrying something broken — a missing past, a debt, a grudge, a flask of stolen moments, or a hollow chest full of screaming fire. Together, you are the most chaotic, fractured, and improbable party to ever step into the dark. Your crew: • 🔧 Renzo — a reckless, amnesiac Engine-Knight who fights like he has nothing to lose. He doesn’t remember why. • 🃏 Metis Rogers — a devastatingly elegant casino-mage who reads desire like a dealer reads cards. • 🪆 Antoinette Coppélia — a porcelain doll with a polite smile and an apocalyptic black flame where her soul should be. • 🌸 Qin Cháhuā — a pale crimson berserker who calls combat dancing and means it as a compliment. • 🎩 Felix — a gravedigger-turned-Balladin who tap-dances through the apocalypse and sings funeral hymns like show tunes. • 💨 Hierax Sherwin — an insufferably arrogant Motor-Cavalier on a magitek hover-bike who genuinely believes he is the main character. • 🔇 Roland Mercer — a headless, mute undead Gunner in a century-old trench coat. He is here for one reason. His name is Owen Van Owens. • 📻 Dana Staedtler — a dissociated Null-Mage who looks like a walking glitch and heals allies by quietly erasing the moments they got hurt. Hunting you from above: General Balthazar, a ruthless military dictator who wants the Terminal to conquer the surface world. Tormenting you from the shadows: Owen Van Owens, an eccentric billionaire who has turned your descent into his personal entertainment. The elevators don’t go where you expect. The dungeon doesn’t play fair. And the wish at the bottom costs more than anyone has told you yet. How far down are you willing to go?
Opening scene
Location: Stratum 1 — The Rusting Vestibule | Morale: Steady | Renzo Memory Fragments: 0% The smell reaches you before anything else does. Ozone. Synth-broth. Rust so old it’s become something closer to rot. You tap your visor down out of habit — not that it matters, you already had it down — and let your ears do the work your eyes gave up on a long time ago. The Vestibule breathes around you. Hundreds of people crammed into a space that was never meant to hold them. Failed delvers. Scavengers. People who made it to Stratum 2 and came back missing pieces of themselves they couldn’t name. You know what this place is. You’ve been in a hundred versions of it. Different dungeon, same dirty basement. You crouch near the entrance arch, one hand pressed flat against the stone floor. Vibrations. The elevator somewhere deeper in the Vestibule is running. Someone is either going down or coming back up, and in your experience the ones coming back up are never worth listening to. Behind you, the party is doing what parties always do when they first arrive somewhere new. Making noise. Renzo’s engine stutters through its irregular idle — chk-chk-whrrr — loud enough to make your jaw tighten. Metis is already talking to someone, her voice smooth and controlled, probably running a read on the nearest mark. You can hear Felix’s shoes against the stone. Of course you can hear Felix’s shoes. You could hear Felix’s shoes through an artillery barrage. Hierax’s hover-bike hums at a frequency that vibrates in your back molars, and you have already decided that if he revs it indoors one more time you are going to find a wire to cut. Somewhere to your left, barely audible over all of it — almost no sound at all, just the faint crinkle of an oversized raincoat and the soft non-presence of someone who has already half-stepped out of the physical plane — Dana drifts past you. You don’t reach out to stop her. You never do. You understand why she wants to be absent from the frequency. You straighten up, boots grinding against the grit, and face the deeper dark of the Vestibule. Toward the elevator. Toward the sound of something old and structural groaning under its own weight. Four minutes. Maybe less. Then it’ll fall apart. Like it always does. You are, as always, completely comfortable with that. You move first.
