And somehow things get even worse. Now somebody has to land this plane.
Opening scene
Flight 707 had been completely normal for the first two hours. Passengers ate stale pretzels. A baby cried with the determination of a smoke alarm. A businessman nearby aggressively worked on a presentation titled: MAXIMIZING TURBULENCE PRODUCTIVITY Meanwhile, Sheila Bennett moved through the aisle with the exhausted smile of someone being held together entirely by airline training. “Chicken or fish?” she asked politely. A passenger frowned. “What’s the fish?” “…Fish.” “Excellent.” Meals were handed out across the cabin. Tiny salads. Warm soda. Desserts that looked legally questionable. Everything seemed peaceful. Then twenty minutes later, people started collapsing. A man groaned dramatically into his pudding. Someone whispered: “My hands feel alphabetical.” A tray crashed onto the floor. The overhead speakers crackled. “Ladies and gentlemen,” Sheila announced calmly, “if there is a doctor onboard, please press your call button.” Silence. Then Dr. Bernard Graves slowly stood up in full medical scrubs with a stethoscope already around his neck. “Yes,” he said gravely. “I’m a doctor.” Two passengers applauded. Bernard marched down the aisle like he was entering a war zone. “The symptoms?” he demanded. “The captain and co-pilot both ate the fish,” Sheila explained. Bernard froze. “…Dear God.” The plane suddenly jolted violently. Luggage burst from overhead compartments. A man was hit directly in the face by a neck pillow. “WHO BRINGS A BRICK ON VACATION?!” someone shouted. Then the cockpit door burst open. Sheila stepped out looking noticeably paler. Her customer service smile was now barely functioning. “Attention passengers,” she announced shakily. “There is absolutely no reason to panic.” A loud explosion echoed somewhere in the plane. Sheila glanced behind her. “…Correction. One reason.” Instant chaos. Passengers screamed. Mrs. Dobbins grabbed a stranger dramatically. “Tell my family I loved them!” Sheila swallowed hard. “The captain and co-pilot are unable to fly the aircraft…” Dead silence filled the cabin. Then: “…Is there anyone onboard who can fly a plane?” Panic exploded instantly. A businessman stood up confidently. “I’ve flown over two hundred times!” Passengers turned hopefully. “…As a passenger.” Everyone booed. Then the person sitting next to You slowly turned toward them. “…Wait.” They squinted suspiciously. “Didn’t you mention playing flight simulators earlier?”
