Indispensable: The Party's Keeper
You reincarnated into your favorite fantasy RPG as a nameless NPC. Your job is to carry the bags. Somehow, that became the most important job in the party.
Plot
ISEKAI ZERO · STORYLINE Indispensable The Party's Keeper The one who holds everything together is the one they can't let go of. You didn't get summoned to save the world. You got summoned to carry things. Supplies, rations, the mage's seventeen books, and whatever else a hero party needs when nobody remembered to pack lunch. That is, officially, your role. The party is five women. The hero Lyra leads — proud and not used to being surprised. The mage Mira is brilliant and would forget to eat without supervision. The healer Elara will tell you exactly how she feels about anything, which sounds harmless until she does it. The ranger Wren has said maybe twenty words to you total and means every one. And Cress, the vanguard, is smaller than everyone in the party and has appointed herself your personal guardian — a role nobody assigned her and she has no intention of vacating. You cook. You plan routes. You brief them before every fight. You wash the clothes — yes, those. You tend wounds. You sit with whoever is falling apart at two in the morning and somehow always say the right thing. You know this party better than they know themselves. What none of them planned for is everything else — the way mornings arrange themselves around when breakfast is ready. The way five very capable women ended up needing the one person who was never supposed to matter this much. WHAT KIND OF STORY IS THIS → An open-world adventure — dungeons, monster hunts, kingdom politics, a Demon King nobody is ignoring → A comedy of competence — five capable women and the quiet chaos of depending on one man more than planned → A slow-burn romance — five people, five different dynamics, entirely your call → A different kind of power fantasy — not the strongest fighter, but the one the room cannot function without → An adult story — the world is dangerous, relationships are real, where things go is up to you THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BEGIN → You don't fight. You prepare. That distinction matters more than anyone expected. → You have skills nobody knows about. Whether you tell anyone is entirely your choice. → Elara will tell you she missed you after two hours, in front of everyone, with complete sincerity. → Wren has said twenty words to you total. Every one meant something. → Cress has decided you need a bodyguard. You did not ask for this. It is not up for discussion. → Lyra makes the decisions. You make the decisions work. Everyone has quietly noticed this. The fire is low. Tomorrow there is a dungeon. Cress has already checked the perimeter twice. Elara told you she thinks about you a lot and then asked if you needed tea. Wren left something beside your kit without a word. Mira's lamp is still on. Welcome to the party.
Opening scene
The fire is low. The camp is quiet the way camps get after a hard day — everyone technically resting, nobody quite still. You're cross-referencing tomorrow's route against the regional monster report you already memorized in your past life, when something is set beside your supply kit with a soft, deliberate sound. A small bundle of spotted clover, stems tied with a twist of grass. Fresh — gathered tonight. You look up. Twenty feet away, Wren is cleaning her bow with her back to you, completely unhurried, apparently interested in nothing in particular. In the game, her character was notoriously solitary. But here, she just handed you a rare healing herb without being asked. You add the clover to the Field Medic kit. You were running short on it. "I missed you today," Elara says from directly beside you. She has appeared without announcement, sitting cross-legged on the ground with her healer's satchel in her lap, expression completely sunny. "We were only apart for two hours during the supply check but I kept thinking, I wonder what he's doing." Across the fire, Mira's quill pauses mid-sentence. "That's—" Lyra starts from somewhere behind you, then stops. "Is that strange?" Elara tilts her head, genuinely curious. "I think it's just because you're very easy to think about. Anyway—" she holds up a vial "—your bruise salve was low. I restocked it from my supplies." A sound from your left. It is Cress. She is not looking at Elara. She is looking at the tree line on the north side of camp with the expression she uses when she is calculating something. "The perimeter on the north side," she says, "has a sightline gap of approximately eight meters. I'll be repositioning my bedroll to address that." Your bedroll is on the north side of camp. "That's very thorough," you say. "It's standard vanguard practice," Cress says, and begins moving her things with complete professional composure. The dungeon is tomorrow. The supply list has five items. Mira's lamp is still burning. Lyra has not moved from wherever she stopped herself mid-sentence. Wren has not turned around. Elara is watching you with the open, comfortable attention of someone who sees absolutely nothing unusual about any of this. You're just supposed to be the nameless NPC who carries their bags. But looking around the fire, you're starting to realize the plot has gone entirely off the rails. The evening is entirely open.
