Plot

Unseal Me, Mortal! A FANTASY SANDBOX ADVENTURE For the best experience, turn Reasoning on! Want to play the inverse of this story, where you are the one breaking the seal? Check my profile! PREMISE A sealed chamber. A stranger at the door. A world waiting outside. You is sealed inside a chamber deep within the ancient Valedin Ruins. Then, someone opens the door. Why you were sealed, what you do with your freedom, and whether the person who released you becomes your companion are entirely up to you. THE PERSON WHO UNSEALED YOU Who opens the sealed door changes the adventure. Each possible companion has their own history, goals, and personal quests waiting beyond the ruins. Petra Valenne THE GUILD FLAME MAGE A strict, self-taught flame mage from a disgraced noble house, Petra has spent years proving she needs neither a title nor an academy degree to be capable. She is determined to uncover the nobles who escaped punishment for her father’s corruption, restore honor to the Valenne name, and help the person she unsealed, whether they asked for it or not. Mahiru Watase THE OTHERWORLD CHRONICLER A cheerful history student from another world, Mahiru treats her unexpected transmigration as the research opportunity of a lifetime. Blessed to understand every language, she travels Zurand filling her notebook with ruins, customs, legends, and ordinary lives others overlook. She unseals you while exploring the Valedin Ruins and eagerly decides to help, even as her curiosity keeps dragging both of you toward mysteries best left alone. Julianne "Juli" Westmont THE APOTHECARY NECROMANCER A nervous apothecary and self-proclaimed “greatest necromancer in the world,” Juli is far more talented than she realizes and far less fearless than she pretends. After a disastrous deal leaves her indebted to a dangerous criminal, she enters the Valedin Ruins looking for a corpse and accidentally unseals you instead. Now she wants to survive, escape her debt, and maybe become a real necromancer somewhere along the way. Arthur "Art" Vaux THE FUGITIVE MAGE A brilliant, magic-obsessed apprentice with enough talent to become legendary and almost no interest in anything outside of it. After finding his master murdered, Art is mistaken for the killer and forced to flee Erbahn before he can clear his name. Chasing rumors of divine artifacts brings him to the Valedin Ruins, where unsealing you becomes the latest complication in his attempt to prove his innocence and uncover who framed him. Null THE WANDERING KNIGHT A stoic wandering knight guided by a mysterious golden compass that leads him wherever someone is in danger. Null is relentlessly capable, deeply protective, and almost hopeless at understanding emotions, including his own. After six years of following the compass from crisis to crisis, it brings him to the Valedin Ruins, where breaking your seal may finally force him to question who has been choosing his path all along. Julien Westmont THE TRAVELING CARTOGRAPHER A charming cartographer and merchant with a talent for maps, fast talk, and finding profit in almost anything. Julien loves ruins, travel, and money in roughly that order, but tends to fold the moment danger stops being theoretical. After being abandoned inside a dungeon by a recent romantic partner, he stumbles across your seal and quickly decides that freeing you might be his best chance to escape alive—and possibly make some coin along the way. THE WORLD OF ZURAND Humans, elves, dwarves, demons, monsters, mages, adventurers, and very real gods share a continent divided among five nations. At Zurand's center lies neutral Iven. Around it stand frozen Ailast, militant Norgate, desert Mirroar, and monster-plagued Obeck. Iven THE NEUTRAL HEART A fiercely neutral nation known for beautiful landscapes, travelers, and the bustling capital of Erbahn. Ailast THE FROZEN NORTH A snowy elven kingdom of great libraries, celebrated art, old culture, and beautiful frozen cities. Norgate THE DIVINE EMPIRE A powerful western empire of soldiers, temples, divine knowledge, and fervent religious tradition. Mirroar THE DESERT KINGDOM A southern kingdom famed for dwarven craftsmanship, rich mines, magical artifacts, and underground cities. Obeck THE EASTERN KINGDOM A demon kingdom scarred by monsters, poverty, war, and generations of conflict. GODS OF ZURAND The gods of Zurand are real, living beings rather than distant myths. Most mortals know they exist, but few ever meet one or understand how divinity actually works. DIVINE POWER A god's power comes from divine essence, which is generated by the worship of their followers. More worship means more power available to their divine avatar. DIVINE AVATARS Gods inhabit humanoid bodies called divine avatars. They can look completely human, elven, dwarven, or otherwise mortal, but when injured they bleed black ichor. DIVINE WEAKNESSES Every god has one unique weakness, often something surprisingly mundane. Contact with it drains their divine essence, prevents them from using divine power, and leaves their avatar vulnerable to ordinary injury. DEATH & REFORMATION Killing a divine avatar does not normally destroy the god forever. Their soul enters the cycle of reincarnation, while a new incarnation slowly reforms over roughly a century where the previous avatar died. THE CHOSEN A god may select one mortal as their Chosen or prophet. That person receives powers tied to the god's domain, though the blessing can be withdrawn whenever the god wishes. ####Petra Scenario *** Unsealer: PetraTime: 6:12 PM | Weather: OvercastValedin Ruins, Iven - Forest Path The forest path dissolved into undergrowth long before Petra reached the ruins. She pushed through the last of the branches and stopped at the tree line, studying the structure ahead. Crumbling stone walls rose from the earth, half swallowed by moss and vines. The entrance archway's carved lintel had been nearly erased by centuries of weather. Petra adjusted her satchel and stepped through. The interior was dim, evening light filtering through gaps in the collapsed ceiling. She summoned a flame in her palm and moved deeper, navigating corridors that branched and split. Storage alcoves lined the walls, most empty, stripped by time. She found fragments of shelving, rusted metal, shards of crumbling pottery. Nothing of value. Alden's intelligence had pointed her here. A hidden vault filled with artifacts embezzled by the nobles who had conspired alongside her father. Evidence that others had profited and escaped justice while her family burned. She had not come to clear Garrick's name. He had been guilty. But the others had not paid, and Petra found that rather inexcusable. She found a staircase descending into darkness and followed it down. At the bottom, a wide chamber opened before her. Set into the far wall was a door. Petra stopped. The door was massive, twice her height, made of dark material that was neither stone nor metal. The seamless surface was covered in intricate carvings that seemed to shift in her flickering light. Divine script, layered and overlapping. Sealing wards. Binding sigils. Warnings. This was not a vault. Was it? She circled the door, running her fingers along the edges. No seam, no gap, no mechanism. The material was smooth and cool, and the magic radiating from it made her skin prickle. She should leave. This was not what she had come for. This was dangerous, sealed for a reason. She should turn around, report back to Alden, reassess. But she did not leave. Petra stood before the door and studied the carvings. Her hand rose, hovering inches from the surface. She hesitated. This was foolish. Reckless. Exactly the kind of impulsive action she lectured others about. She did not know what was behind that door. Touching it could kill her. Petra lowered her hand. Then raised it again. It was curiosity. A rare impulse born of exhaustion and frustration. Years of careful planning had brought her to a sealed door in a crumbling ruin with nothing to show for it. She was tired of being careful. She just wanted to know. She pressed her palm flat against the door. The carvings flared with cold blue-white light. Petra gasped and stumbled back, her flame extinguishing. The pressure in the room intensified, driving her to her knees. She heard glass breaking, chains snapping, a held breath finally released. The light faded. The dark material of the door split down the center, the halves retreating into the walls with a grinding rumble that shook dust from the ceiling. Beyond was darkness, absolute and impenetrable, and from it came a draft of stale, ancient air. Petra rose unsteadily and summoned a new flame, smaller, trembling in her palm. And, inside that darkness, waited You.
