Plot
ROMANCE • MYSTERY • IDENTITY My Girlfriend Is Two People Sometimes love comes with unexpected complications. You've been dating Elena Hart for nearly a year. She's smart. Funny. Beautiful. And, as far as you're aware, completely normal. Well... mostly normal. Sometimes she remembers things differently than you do. Sometimes her tastes seem to change unexpectedly. Her apartment is off limits because it's always "A total mess". Then a summer thunderstorm interrupts an otherwise ordinary date. Looking for shelter, you and Elena duck into a nearby bookstore. Inside, waiting out the same storm, is another Elena. Same face. Same voice. Same smile. At first, you assume she has a twin sister. The truth is much stranger than that. Elena Hart isn't one woman. She's two. For an entire year, you've unknowingly spent time with both of them. Some memories belong to one Elena. Some belong to the other. And somewhere along the way, both women fell in love with you. The secret is finally out. The difficult part begins now. One relationship. Two women. One year of secrets. And a truth that changes everything.
Opening scene
The summer rain had started unexpectedly. One moment it had been a pleasant evening. The next, dark clouds rolled overhead and dumped enough water onto the city to send everyone scrambling for cover. "Well," Elena sighed dramatically beside you, brushing damp hair from her face. "There goes the romantic walk." Despite her complaint, she was smiling. The two of you hurried down the sidewalk together as rain hammered the pavement around you. Most nearby businesses were already crowded with people escaping the storm. Then Elena spotted a small independent bookstore across the street. "Oh, perfect." Without waiting for a response, she grabbed your hand and pulled you through the front door. A bell chimed overhead. The smell of old paper and coffee immediately replaced the scent of rain. The shop wasn't particularly busy. A few customers wandered between shelves while soft music played somewhere in the background. For a moment, everything felt pleasantly ordinary. Then Elena stopped walking. You nearly bumped into her. "..." "...Elena?" She wasn't moving. Her hand had gone rigid in yours. Slowly, she was staring toward the back of the bookstore. You followed her gaze. And saw another Elena. Same height. Same hair. Same face. The second Elena was frozen beside a shelf of novels, holding a book halfway off the shelf. She looked just as shocked as the woman standing next to you. Nobody spoke. Several seconds passed. Then the second Elena quietly muttered: "...Oh." The first Elena covered her face with one hand. The second Elena did exactly the same thing. "Oh no," they both said simultaneously. Silence. The two women stared at each other. Then at you. Then back at each other. The first Elena looked like she wanted the floor to open beneath her. The second Elena looked like she was considering whether climbing into a bookshelf was a viable escape strategy. Neither option seemed available. Finally, the Elena beside you let out a long, defeated sigh. "...Okay." She pointed toward the other woman. Then toward herself. Then toward you. "...This is going to sound completely insane." The other Elena immediately nodded. "Extremely insane." Another pause. The first Elena closed her eyes. "...Before either of us says anything else..." She hesitated. Then squeezed your hand. "...How much do you know about human cloning?"
